Four Zombies and a Clown compilation CD tracklisting [email protected] Originally planned as a series of 10 EPs with 10 thirty-second songs each, that plan was scrapped early on. A prototype for the format. Lies (extended version) [bonus track] – EP 1 Swarming [bonus track] – EP 2 Destroy+ (danb mix) [bonus track] – EP 4 robovoice [bonus track] – EP 6 SEA'' [bonus track] [SEA' alternate mix] – EP 6 Party [bonus track] – EP 8 SEA'% - made for a music class project. This is the best 4Z+C song there is. Community Sounds – EP 9 R Back Mini – though technically the last track on #10, I felt it went better after the bonus tracks. Be sure to listen to the whole thing! Individual sets of liner notes (where they exist) follow. These were made as the albums were finished, and at some point discontinued. Some of them are worth reading. Not many.

Four Zombies and a Clown Vigils lyrics (EP 3) IN STEREO LO-FI! [My Darling Ruin] 0:25 My darling ruin. [Expiry] 0:23 I will bring you down with me. [Chant of Summoning] 0:22 Rock and roll. Rock and roll. Might of hell. Might of hell. Rock and roll. Might of hell. [Flowers] 0:30 Flowers are beautiful, flowers are awesome. [Accursed Tradition] 0:22 A clown... juggles a ball. A zombie eats a ball. [Mecha-Man*] 0:23 He's a mecha man. (I am a mecha zombie) [Organic Mass] 0:26 Kill, zombie, kill. Kill, zombie, kill. Kill, zombie, kill. Kill, zombie, kill. [Unrequited] 0:28 I love you. [Brain Dump] 0:28 No lyrics. [Spooks] 0:43 No lyrics. *Adapted from Devo's "Mecha-Mania Boy" A bit of commentary: This was an attempt at alternate songwriting methods. Some, as you can tell, get even stranger results than before. Others merely sound mediocre. Among the 'firsts' in this album: - the first song to use keyboard (an organ sound, in particular. Accursed Tradition.) - the first song to use guitar (Organic Mass.) - the first song over 30 seconds (Spooks) - the first song created (possibly ever?) using CDs being hit together as percussion (Brain Dump)

The CD starts with a more traditional-sounding 4Z+C song and gradually moves into the more complex territories. Expiry adapts... something. It's just weird, I think, and if I weren't avoiding outtakes I would cut it. Chant of Summoning was difficult. The snorting sound for percussion just never quite sounded right. Flowers was built around that title. I didn't want to write about zombies. This turned out really nice, with the ukulele sounds slowly moving out-of-line. Accursed Tradition doesn't really have a point. It's a fun song nonetheless. Mecha-Man was written out of Devo love. It adapts a melody from a Devo B-side, "Mechamania Boy." Organic Mass is one of my favorite songs here. Unrequited is here in case the person whose name is not mentioned listens to the CD. Brain Dump was created to play with the stereo mixing. Different sounds happen all around the listener, creating chaotic noise. Spooks is... what it is. It's at the back because it's the longest.

Dead and Unplugged lyrics (no liner notes this time) FEED ME ____ FEED ME YOUR BABIES, FEED ME YOUR DEAD FEED ME YOUR BABIES, FEED ME YOUR DEAD FEED ME YOUR BABIES, FEED ME YOUR DEAD FEED ME YOUR BABIES, FEED ME YOUR DEAD ALERT _____ WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM TO BRING YOU A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ZOMBIE LOVE _____ I LOVE YOU AND YOU'RE A ZOMBIE NEVER SAW ME SLEEPING _____ NEVER SAW ME SLEEPING NEVER SAW ME SLEEPING NEVER SAW ME SLEEPING NEVER SAW ME SLEEPING FINE I'LL DO IT ONE MORE TIME JUST PROMISE YOU NEVER SAW ME SLEEPING DEAD AND UNPLUGGED _____ I'M DEAD I'M DEAD AND UNPLUGGED Well, fine, there ARE liner notes, but added for the “six-on-one” release. − This was an attempt at an almost-live album. Also, accidental alliteration. Actually, assonance... − By the above, I mean that many songs were recorded with minimal editing. − These songs are possibly the bad ones here. − I'm particularly fond of “Alert” and “Dead and Unplugged.” − “Flowers” was an attempt to demonstrate how little subject matter mattered for 4Z+C. − Only eight songs. I think this was an accident, but as compensation, you can consider danb's remix of Destroy+ a separate song if you choose. Oh, man, I love that remix.

ONE TONE LINER NOTE: One Tone is a misnomer. I apologize in advance. Although the name implies that only one tone is used, in fact, only one tone was recorded. In fact, all 10 tracks on One Tone were recorded with a single 2-second sample of ukulele and a lot of manipulations. No vocals, just one strum.

The (Beast Is) Alive liner notes This wasn't complete at time of CD burning, but I felt that it was suitable for presentation nonetheless. At some point during One Tone, I realized that song titles don't have to make sense. At some point during this CD, I realized (a bit late) that they DO have to make some degree of sense. Song-by-song commentary: Extension Backmasked vocals and an irregular guitar rhythm save the day. As does a cheap segue. Procession More backmasked vocals. Also, a fun ukulele reworking. now it's gone Name adapted from a line in the Animal Collective song Fireworks, on an impulse That doesn't sound like a zombie doing that “whoo”-like parts. Maybe that's the resident clown. SEA' Samples an alarm entirely by accident. Also samples the Jonathan Coulton song “Mandelbrot Set”, though only for the oddly evocative background 'echoes'. A pretty darn good song, despite being around 46 seconds too long. ZMMM NOM NOM NOM VpbVdqV This is not the strangest moment on the disk. That is yet to come. EUKU (feat. The Floating Head Effect) The Floating Head Effect is a garage band I'm in. Its title goes on everything I record with something else, at this point. The aforementioned mainly consists of this one track right now. that's it exactly This is the strangest song I believe I have ever recorded. It's adapted from... yawning. slimeriver Not much to say here. Not in a minor key all the way! That deserves kudos. robovoice Something 4Z+C-like created around this time as a test of a vocoder's ability. SEA'' Just an alternate mix of SEA'.

Assorted notes: - Arpasway was the first 4Z+C single released. It was sold for $.25 on Soundclick. It has so far sold 0 copies. Don't buy it. - SEA# is an extension of SEA'. Some day I'll make a really long mix that blends the two. - This was realized in SEA'%. - The floating head's name is Bob. SOME MORE NOTES I MADE WHILE LISTENING TO THIS AFTER COMPILING IT: - Punctuation Island was a second-place entry to Songfight. It tied with two other songs at 8 votes. - EPs 1, 7 and 10 are my favorites. 7 is the most consistantly decent. - The lyrics to “When I Count 3” are: “One-two-three when I count 3. One, two, three. One, two, three.”

ONE FINAL NOTE Feel free to remix the songs. In fact, please do. Very please?
