Dear Students, The Executive MBA Student Survey showed a remarkable increase in student satisfaction - the highest rating since the survey's launch almost two years ago. There is always room for improvement, and your constructive comments in these surveys help us fine tune your experience, and the experience for future classes. I wanted to let you know that we heard, and appreciated, your feedback. Two important themes emerged from your comments - quality Ethan Hanabury, and variety - across the board, from elective choice Associate Dean, MBA ‘85 to catering. We have already made positive changes and are working on more for the coming months. To ensure the best elective choice possible, we have added a number of electives, including High Performance Leadership and a Master Class on Market Innovation. To address the tutor shortage at the School, we have invited recent EMBA graduates to participate. We also hosted a special luncheon for tutors to give them information about the Executive MBA Program and the needs of our students. With regard to videotaping, we are very optimistic about the progress we have made with our multimedia group to benchmark and update our techniques and policies. You may have also noticed that, at the beginning of this term, we began offering boxed lunches from some of New York's top specialty markets. We have also worked with our catering staff to provide healthier snacks, more diet sodas, a new toaster, dedicated tea station, and more vegetarian and vegan options. More to come, however I wanted you to know that we are listening, and will continue to do so, as we strive to reach the ultimate goal of #1. Warm Regards, Ethan

EMBA Career Management: McKinsey & Company Friday, June 22 11:40am-12:25pm Warren L-107 McKinsey & Company and Columbia’s Office of EMBA Career Management cordially invite students to attend an information session on Friday, June 22, 2007 with the Operations Consulting Practice from McKinsey & Company. Trish Mosconi, Partner (EMBA ’98), and Steven Schneider, Consultant (MBA ’04), of McKinsey’s Operations practice will lead a discussion about this area and its work within the firm. This session is applicable to students who may be interested in learning more about the consulting industry and the Operations practice at McKinsey. EMBA Career Management Workshop: Dealing with Adversity and Change Saturday, June 23 11:40am-12:25pm Warren 209 We are living in challenging times. Added to the stresses of a tumultuous world and economic uncertainty, we have the presence of our ever-changing work environment. The way we do business is constantly changing. In this interactive workshop, Pat Drew, an experienced executive coach and organizational consultant, will address tools for engaging adversity, including attitudes, perceptions and beliefs that can help you bounce back after unexpected challenges, as well as steps to take to anticipate upcoming problems and manage the accompanying stress. Pat will also discuss what the latest research tells us about personal energy management and how to thrive in a world of 24/7 connection. Students who work in rapidly changing, stressful work environments may be especially interested in the session topic.

Columbia Executive MBA program. The purpose was to address any questions around the EMBA experience (e,g, work/life balance, transitioning back to school). Many of these prospects were interested in fall and spring entry into the New York EMBA program. We appreciate the time our students took out of their busy schedules. Because of their enthusiasm and dedication, we know that more women will seriously consider Columbia as their first choice in Executive MBA consideration.

Congratulations to John Pacifico who was recently chosen to participate in the Kauffman Fellows Program. The 24-month Kauffman Fellowship is designed to develop and network emerging leaders in the venture capital industry globally. John will be working with Brent Ahrens and Stephen Bloch during his program.

The Entrepreneurial Sounding Board

The Entrepreneurial Sounding Board offers MBA students the opportunity to meet individually with faculty members and practitioners affiliated with the Entrepreneurship Program to discuss their entrepreneurial ideas and potential business opportunities. These 30-minute sessions provide students with a platform to receive preliminary feedback, next-step action items and, in many cases, links to additional support from appropriate mentors. Students can be at any stage of development of their venture. All sessions are confidential.

Ron Hubsher “Sales Skills for MBAs”

Ron Hubsher is Managing Director of the Sales Optimization Group, an international sales, sales management and CRM consulting and training organization. The company assists clients in financial services; technology, professional services and manufacturing accelerate sales by using its patent pending sales methodology and tools. Some of their notable clients include Adobe, Morgan Stanley, Prudential, ADP, Sun, Comcast and others. Prior to the Sales Optimization Group, Mr. Hubsher was in sales management at a leading on demand CRM provider UpShot (acquired by Siebel) where he helped hundreds of companies define CRM requirements and successfully implement CRM solutions. A former Management Consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Mr. Hubsher has worked with, and helped provide thought leadership, for Fortune 500 companies on their sales, sales management, marketing, CRM and business strategies. Mr. Hubsher has over 20 years of experience in sales, sales management, business development and CRM. He is a sales, sales management and CRM industry thought leader and contributes, participates, and presents at industry conferences and publications including the America Marketing Association, Selling Power Magazine, Webex, CRM Radio, CRM Guru, Columbia Business School Alumni Association, Wharton Alumni Association, National Association of Small Business Investment Companies, NY Private Equity Network, the Indus Enterprise, LA Times and others.
