sEDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY CSI5113 Principles of Project Management Semester 2, 2008 Major Report Assignment (Assignment 2) Scenario In the middle of the development/execution phase of a large software development project the lead developer is taken seriously ill. His doctors have stated that he is not allowed to communicate with anyone with regard to his work. Therefore, the project needs to continue without his input. The lead developer was technically excellent, but unfortunately he had not maintained the required documentation. The project is running to a tight schedule due to the fact that it needs to be completed before a change in legislation comes into force in six month’s time. Any organisation that is not compliant by that date will be fined $1000 per day until they are compliant. The project manager needs to address these issues urgently.

Answer the following questions: 1. What are the main project issues that the project manager needs to address? 2. Discuss what choices the project manager has to make and how they should be resolved. 3. Describe the steps that the project manager should take in order to keep the project on schedule. 4. What should the project manager have done from the beginning of the project to avoid some of the problems that have to be addressed now?

Your answers should focus on the 9 Knowledge Areas.

As you do not have access to all the information regarding this situation you will need to make assumptions. All of these must be stated in your answers.
