COMM 906: Digital Broadcasting Systems Project Weight: 20 % Project group: 5 students. Project submission deadline: Thursday 10/12/2009. Presentation of the project: Tuesday 15/12/2009 Tool: The project is based on MATLAB. (You are free to use m-file or Simulink). General instructions: (1) The Project will be submitted as a hard copy. The m-file must be included in the appendix in the hard copy of the project. (2) The presentation of the project (using power point) will be held in Tuesday 15/12/2009. The presentation includes: -

Project Description Simulate the following block diagram of a communication system.

Assumptions and Tasks: -

The communication channel is flat fading channel. QAM modulation is used in the transmitter. The additive noise to the modulated signal is white Gaussian noise. You are free to choose the type of the channel coding. Evaluate the performance of the system. (probability of error versus SNR,…..) Change the type of modulation to QPSK and compare the performance of the system in this case with the QAM modulation case.

A bonus of 5 marks in the assignments will be awarded if you add a source coding to the block diagram and simulate it.
