Read Alma through Moroni, discuss with family what Alma, Helaman, & Moroni Foretold about Christ... Study For the Strength of Youth & discuss each topic with your parents... Discuss the purpose of a patriarchal blessing. When you feel ready talk to parents about obtaining one. Teach at least 4 family home evening lessons each year. Read topics from Gospel Principles & teach 2 of them to family. See guidebook. Memorize the words & learn to conduct at least 3 hymns each year. See guidebook Learn to prepare & use a simple budget. Keep a budget for at least 2 months. Study & briefly describe to your parents your country's constitution & events to its creation. Plan an activity in which you & your family serve a neighbour or relative. Carry out activity together. Quorum Activities Do All Read D&C 20:53-57 & the Teaching Guidebook. Discuss how you can be a good home teacher. As assigned, give at least one 4-5 minute talk each year in Priesthood or sacrament meeting. Teach, or help teach, 1 or more lessons in the teachers quorum meeting Discuss how to prepare for & serve a full-time mission & way to assist fulltime missionaries. Read Alma Through Moroni Study purposes of Aaronic Priesthood found on pg7. discuss what it means to "become converted to the gospel Jesus Christ & live its teaching." Discuss what it means to keep the Sabbath day holy. Practise appropriate Sabbath observance. Prepare & present at least 2 home teaching lessons Recite from memory the Articles of Faith & D&C 13. Read & discuss a general conference address that teaches about the evils of immorality & pornography. Complete a family group record for each of your grandparents where they are listed as children. Write regularly in a personal journal for a least 3 months. Regularly add to your mission fund in preparation for & anticipation of receiving a call to serve a full-time mission. Collect recipes for a dozen meals that a missionary can prepare quickly. Prepare at least 4 of these meals. Write 3 letters of appreciation to your family or ward members during the year. Thank them for their kindness & support. Develop a list of 10 qualities that you admire in your father or another adult, and discuss them. Read at least 2 stories from a Church magazine. Share them with your family in FHE or with a priesthood leader. Physical Development Do 8 or more Run 5 km or 3 miles in 30 minutes or less Swim 75 m using 2 different strokes. Demonstrate lifesaving skills in the water. Hike 15 km or 9 miles with a 5 Kg pack in 1 day. Participate in a group cultural arts performance such as a road show, play, folk dance, or other activity in a church school, or community function. Teach a younger brother or sister or ward member how to play an indoor game or sport Participate on a sports team in the quorum, ward, school, or community. Learn to play or officiate a sport of your choice. Participate in a 3-day quorum camping trip under supervision. Explain how to survive for 48 hours if lost in the wilderness in both warm & cold seasons. Continue your education, & develop additional skills in reading, writing, & mathematics. Improve your reading skills by reading at least 6 issues of a Church magazine. Choose 3 careers & think of several questions you have about each. Discuss them with people who can help you learn about these careers. Emphasize positive aspects of each as they relate to your personal characteristics & life goals. Visit at least 3 places where people perform work you might enjoy. Find out what they like & dislike about their work, how they prepared for it. Describe how you would feel about working at such a job If a vocational interest test is available, take it, & discuss the results with your parents. Take some classes at school to help prepare for a career. Discuss how your chosen career would allow you to maintain the moral standards of the Church Learn & explain the entrance requirements for a technical school, college, or university; describe at least 5 classes interest you. Learn to play a musical instrument. Attend a "career night" where a guest speaker describes the steps a person should take to apply for a job & what characteristics employers look for in new employees. Collect 3 different job applications, & fill them out as practice. In a language other than your own, learn to bear you testimony, and memorize the first 6 articles of faith. Use a computer to prepare a Church talk, a school assignment, or another similar task. Citizenship & Social Development Do 8 or more Learn & practice proper personal hygiene & grooming, & explain why these skills are important. Under priesthood direction, plan & participate in at least 1 combined activity. Volunteer for 4 or more afternoons or evenings at a hospital, home for the aged, disable, welfare center, or homeless shelter. Invite your grandparents or other senior citizens to share their childhood memories with you. Take notes of the main highlights in their lives. Attend a city council meeting, & share impressions of the experience. Visit a legal court, & share your impressions of the experience. Learn & sing, alone or with a group, your national anthem; explain its origin. Discuss ways to help prevent crime in your area. Develop a list of music, movies, television programs, & printed materials that are in harmony with gospel standards. With the quorum, plan & participate in an "etiquette dinner." As assigned, give at least 1 talk in sacrament, or give a speech at school or in the community. With approval, organize a project a clean & repair a public park or gathering place. Choose a project that gives significant service to your family, ward, stake or community. Needs to be at least 20 hours & approved by parents & leader. My Personal Journal Do All At a minimum. fill in the journal section of the Duty to God guidebook. However, you are encouraged to use and write a journal on a regular bases.
