Ceftriaxone Sodium CLASSIFICATIONS: Cephalosporins, third generation
MECHANISM OF ACTION Long-acting, broadspectrum cephalosporin antibiotic. The bactericidal activity of ceftriaxone results from inhibition of cell wall synthesis. Ceftriaxone exerts in vitro activity against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms.
INDICATIONS Sepsis, meningitis; abdominal, biliary tract, GIT, bone, joints, soft tissue, renal, resp tract, ENT, genital & skin & wound infections. UTI, gonorrhea. Periop prophylaxis of infections.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
NURSING CONSIDERATIONS
GI upsets, hematological changes, skin reactions, coagulation disorders, phlebitis (IV administration). Rarely, agranulocytosis, headache, dizziness, renal & gallbladder precipitation, increase in liver enzymes, oliguria, increased serum creatinine, anaphylactoid reactions, fever, chills, cyanosis in infants,
