Drawing and Illustration Vlog
Script
Introduction:
Hey guys! My name’s Gabi and I’m a Graphics Design student. For one on my Drawing and Illustration classes I need to produce a vlog as one of my final projects and if you’re watching this video you’ve probably bee following my blog and seen my final mockups. What I’ll be discussing in the video is my process and development, converting my design from traditional to digital, what I enjoyed doing and my strengths and weaknesses.
The development:
I’m going to take you through the process of how the final design came about. In the beginning we had to research surface pattern designers and Bridget Riley’s work was the most inspirational. Her work is mostly illusions, which gave me the idea for my final pattern design which was overall, an illusion. As you can see, these are a few design sketches before I made the final pattern design.
Traditional to Digital:
Here are more design sketches except these are more advanced as I added colour by using markers as the medium. Since I’m more comfortable drawing traditionally I was initially worried that the final patter wouldn’t be as good digitally as it would be traditionally as I’m not very skilled when it comes to using photoshop and illustrator. I was also worried that my design wouldn’t be as precise as it would be traditionally. Overall, my design came out better than expected, I’m proud of the outcome.
What I Enjoyed Doing:
This pattern was one of the final patterns I had submitted for task 2 which was initially the final pattern I decided to use but I played around with the design in order to get the illusion effect. After experimenting digitally with my patterns, again after experimenting with colour, texture and tones, I decided to come up with the illusion effect.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
For my strengths and weaknesses, as I said before, I was initially worried about converting my traditional designs into digital as I’m not very skilled when it comes to photoshop and illustrator. Those were my main concerns but after I experimented with colour, texture and tones, everything would turn out ok, in the end it did.
Final Mock-Ups:
Just in case you haven’t seen my final mock-ups, this is a pillow mock-up which includes the final pattern design, here you see a bag mock-up and also a t-shirt mock-up.
