1. Objectives

1.1 Objective of this document This document defines conditions, pre-requisites, software components installation steps and validation for Windows 2003 domain controller.

1.2 Objectives of the documented procedure X236 Installation procedure provides steps to setup 1st Domain Controller server, including: •

Windows 2003 Server Standard edition



Primary Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP

This procedure is based mainly on screenshots describing step by step operations.

1.3 Intended audience All trained professional who will have to install Windows 2003, DNS, and DHCP Server in RFC environment.

1.4 Assumptions Procedure is defined assuming that Windows 2003 installation under xSeries 236 configuration.

1.6 Potential limitations This is documentation is only applable to RFC; Pictures in the section “Windows 2003 Standard Edition Pre-Installation” unable to captured in the Linux Environment. However, the section Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition Pre-installation shows with detail as most as possible.

2. Windows 2K3 Installation, Domain controller, DNS, DHCP, Configuration

2.1. Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition Pre-installation In this section, we do pre-installation steps base on IBM Server Guide CD that included in IBM Server packet. 1. Power on the server, Insert the Server Guide CD 7.x into the CD-ROM. 2. Wait until Server Guide screen below appears, Select languge English . 3. In the Keyboard and Country Selection pages, select English Language. 4. Choose Keyboard Layout and Country -> United States, then click Next. 5. On the Program Licensing Agreement, Choose I accept, Click Next. 6. On the Welcome to Server Guide Screen, click Next. 7. On the Select your NOS version, choose the Windows 2003 Standard version, click Next. 8. On the Server Configuration tasks, Click Next to set Date and Time. 9. On the Date and Time selection, we set current date and time, then click Next.

2.2.

RAID 1- Mirror Configuration

In our plan, we configure server using RAID 1- mirror with 2 hard disks 73.4 GB 10. On the Clear All hard disk drives, select Clear all hard disk drive and restore server RAID to default, then Click Next. 11. The Clear all hard disk drives screen appear, Wait 2 minutes. 12. After all hard disk drives partition have been removed, Click Next. 13. In the server Configuration tasks show we pass 2 step, the next step is to update Serve Raid firmware, On this screen click Next to update.

14. In the update firmware process, does not turn off the server. 15. After update firmware process is completed, The Server Guide will shutdown and restart the server automatically. 16. After server shutdown and restart, the server RAID Manager shows steps have been done and next step. 17. Click Next to Configure Server RAID adapters. 18. In the Serve RAID Manager Configuration Path, We select Custom configuration for controller 1 and tick on option Automatically initialize new logical drives, then click Next. 19. In the Configuration RAID screen, On the left window shows available hard disk to configure RAID. 20. High light the available disk on the top, Click configure RAID 1 Mirror, click >>, then click Next.

21. After add 2 disks, we have 2 new online as in picture, Click Next. 22. On this Screen, we see Logical drive, RAID Level, Click Next to continue… 23. New Logical drive has been created, Size 70,006 MB on Array A, Click Next. 24. Click Yes to Apply New Configuration. 25. Click Continue. 26. Server RAID View current RAID Configuration, Click Next. 27. Click Next to Create and format a NOS. 28. Click OK to continue. 29. Click Next to setup NOS. 30. Choose NTFS and Partition size, Click Next. 31. Click OK to continue. 32. Server RAID review screen, Click Next. 33. Enter Domain Name RFC.com.vn, Click Next. 34. Specify Network Information. 35. Specify IP address, Subnet Mask, IP ADDRESS: 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Defualt gateway: 192.168.1.3 DNS server: 192.168.1.2 Click Next. 36. Choose Time Zone GMT+7. 37. Select component to install, Choose Default, click Next. 38. Windows Installation specify where is device driver of devices, click Next. 39. Windows installation is copying files to setup NOS. 40. Insert Windows CD 2003 Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition, click Next. 41. Choose I agree to the terms and condition. 42. Waiting for copying Windows installation files, after copped, Remove CD-ROM drive. The Server will be restarted and Setup Windows Operating System automatically. 43. After Server restart completely, the Windows server is installed ready. Go to 1.3 to continue next step.

Promote machine to Domain Controller

section, the server will be configured as the first domain controller in domain RFC. DNS Domain name: RFC.COM.VN Netbios Domain Name: RFC Database and log file locate in: C:\Windows\ntds Shared system volume: c:\windows\sysvol Restore Mode Password: rfcdc01

Log on to server with Domain administrator account. Click Start and click the Run command.

In the Run dialog box, enter dcpromo in the Open text box and click OK.

Click Next on the Welcome to the Active Directory Installation Wizard page.

Click Next on the Operating System Compatibility page.

On the Domain Controller Type page, select Domain controller for a new domain option and click Next.

On the Create New Domain page, select the Domain in a new forest option and click Next.

On the New Domain Name page, enter the name of the domain in the Full DNS name for new domain text box. Enter RFC.com.vn in the text box and click Next.

On the NetBIOS Domain Name page, accept the default NetBIOS name for the domain. Click Next.

Accept the default settings on the Database and Log Folders page and click Next.

On the Shared System Volume page, accept the default location and click Next.

On the DNS Registration Diagnostics page, select the Install and configure the DNS server on this computer, and set this computer to use this DNS server as its preferred DNS server. Click Next.

On the Permissions page, select the Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating system option. Click Next.

On the Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password page, enter a Restore Mode Password and then Confirm password. Click Next. Note: Restore Mode Password: rfcdc01

On the Summary page, The Active Directory wizard view summary information selected. Write down these information for use later. Click Next.

The Active Directory installation Wizard is starting to configure itself as a domain controller.

Click Finish on the Completing the Active Directory Installation Wizard page. Click Finish, and then Restart the computer. The Active Directory and Domain controller is configured completely.

2.4. DNS server installation and configuration In this section, we will add network components, installation and configuration our Domain controller as DNS server.

2.4.1.

Installing the DNS server service

Click Start, point to Control Panel. Click Add or Remove Programs.

In the Add or Remove Programs page, click the Add/Remove Windows Components button on the left side of the window.

On the Windows Components page, scroll through the list of Components and select Networking Services. Click the Details button.

In the Networking Services dialog box, put a check mark in the Domain Name System (DNS) check box and click OK.

Click Next on the Windows Components page.

Click Finish on the Completing the Windows Components Wizard page.

2.4.2.

Configuring the DNS server

Click Start, go to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and select DNS.

On the DNS configure page, double click on the server RFCDC01 icon to Expand the DNS server.

In the DNS management console, rightclick the server RFCDC01 in the left pane of the console and click Properties. Click Forwarders tab, Type IP address is ISP’s DNS. Note :

Create the Forward Lookup zone

Right click on the Forward lookup Zones, Select New Zone….

Click Next on the Welcome to the New Zone Wizard.

Select Primary zone on the Zone type page, Click Next.

Select To all domain controller in the Active Directory domain RFC.com.vn, then click Next.

Type Zone name is RFC.com.vn in Zone name text box, click Next.

Select Allow both non secure and secure dynamic updates…… and click Next.

Click Finish on the Completing the New Zone Wizard page to completely configuration Forward lookup zone.

Create Reverse lookup zone

Right click on the Reverse Lookup Zone, Select New Zone.

Click Next on the Welcome to the New Zone Wizard page.

Select Primary Zone on the Zone Type page.

Select To all domain controller in the Active Directory domain RFC.com.vn, then click Next.

Type Network ID is 192.168.1 in the Network ID text box. Click Next.

Select Allow both non secure and secure dynamic update, Click Next.

Click Finish on the Completing the new Zone Wizard page.

2.5.

DHCP installation and configuration

In this section, we will add network components, installation and configuration our Domain controller as DHCP server. DHCP server provide to clients ip address detail as below: Ip address Range: 192.168.1.10 – 192.168.1.254 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.3 DNS server: 192.168.1.2

Install DHCP server

Click Start and go to Settings and Control Panel.

Double click on Add/Remove Programs.

Click Add/Remove Window components.

In the Windows Components Wizard page, scroll down and highlight Networking Services.

Select Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). Click OK.

Wait for the complete installation.

Click Finish on the Completing the Windows Components Wizard.

2.5.2.

Authorizing the DHCP server

Click Start. Go to Programs, Administrative Tools and select DHCP.

The DHCP server is not authorized in Active Directory.

Right click on Server RFC, select Authorize.

The DHCP server is Authorized.

2.5.3.

Creating the DHCP Scope

Click Action and go to New Scope on the DHCP page.

Click Next on the Welcome to the New Scope Wizard page.

On the Scope Name page, enter a name for the scope in the Name text box and enter an optional description in the Description text box.

On the IP Address Range page, enter a Start IP address and a End IP address in the text boxes provided. The start and end addresses represent the beginning and end of a range of addresses that available for DHCP clients. Then configure the subnet mask settings in either the Length or Subnet mask text boxes. Click Next. Note: Start IP address: 192.168.1.10 End IP address: 192.168.1.254

Accept the default on the Add Exclusions page. Click Next.

Accept the default lease duration of 8 Days on the Lease Duration page. Click Next.

On the Configure DHCP Options page, select the Yes, I want to configure these options now option and click Next.

On the Router (Default Gateway) page, enter the IP address of the internal interface of the ISA Server 2004 firewall machine in the IP address text box and click Add. Click Next. Note: IP address: 192.168.1.3

On the Domain Name and DNS Servers page, enter the domain name used on the internal network in the Parent domain text box. In the IP address text box, enter the IP address of the DNS server on the internal network. Click Add then click Next. Note: IP Address: 192.168.1.2

On the Activate Scope page, select the Yes, I want to activate this scope now option and click Next.

Click Finish on the Completing the New Scope Wizard page.
