Night by Elie Wiesel DJ #2 Chapter 3: In the novel Night, Elie Wiesel flashbacks back to the first night in camp: “Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed. Never shall I forget the smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky. Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith forever”(34). Analysis- Term: Anaphora: Wiesel used anaphora in this poem to create a effect on what he had endured during his time at Auschwitz. He repeats “never shall I forget” to explain what he had went through, the things he saw, and how he may have felt. This makes the reader understand more about what painful things he had endured and how his life was during his time in the concentration camps. Overall, the purpose of this anaphora was to show readers how his faith and life had changed once he was there.
