Some Basic Distinctives 1. Prayer in Unison “So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: "Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,” (Acts 4:24)

2. Lifting of Hands “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;” (1Ti 2:8 ) “Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” (Ps 141:2) “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, And bless the LORD.” (Ps 134:2 )

3. Clapping Hands and Other Emotional Responses O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. (Ps 47:1 )

4. Laying on of hands for the sick Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. (James 5:14)

When the Natural Meets the Supernatural Key Truth: When the natural meets the supernatural, sometimes it is more than the natural can stand.

Three Part Being 1. Body 2. Soul 3. Spirit Body is the gateway to the natural. Spirit is the gateway to the supernatural.

Spiritual Gifts Study

When the natural meets the supernatural it is as if 100,000 volts of electricity has ran through the human body. The body cannot handle this and strange things begin to happen. Example: Acts 2 Day of Pentecost Disciples appeared as drunkards (possibly staggering, falling to the ground, talking in a strange language) yet they were overwhelmed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Other Reactions to the Holy Spirit’s Power

1. Falling out under the power (slain in the spirit) This reaction occurs when someone is so overwhelmed by the presence and power of the Spirit that they fall to the ground.

Biblical Example of Sinners John 18:1-6 soldiers who came to arrest Jesus “drew back and fell to the ground” Matthew 28:4 soldiers who guarded the tomb “became like dead men” Acts 9:1-4 Saul “fell to the ground”

Biblical Examples of Believers Daniel (Daniel 8:15-18; 10:4-9) Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:26-28; 3:23; 43:3) John (Rev. 1:17 - Saw the glorified Christ; “and when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.” On several occasions, when the fire of God fell from heaven, the children of Israel fell on their faces and cried, “The LORD, He is God!”

Running Refers to someone responding to the supernatural move of the Spirit upon them by running quickly and energetically. B. Biblical Example: Elijah after the Mt. Carmel experience in I Kings 18. vs. 46 - “Then the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.” A spirit of running got on the old prophet! Is. 40:31 - “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary...!”

Dancing A spiritual form of worship, inspired by the manifestation of God’s Spirit. Biblical Example: Eccles. 3:1,4 - “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven...a time to weep, and a time to dance.” Ps. 149:3 - “Let them praise His name with the dance...” Ps. 150:4 - “Praise Him with the timbrel and dance...” 2 Samuel 6:14 David “danced before the Lord”

Shouting This is a shout of joy, a cry of jubilee, a victory shout or a war cry. It involves raising the voice for all to hear (getting loud).

II Sam. 6:15 - While David danced before the LORD with all his might, he and all Israel “brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.” Ezra 3:11 - When Israel began restoring the temple, “all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the LORD was laid.” Josh. 6:20 - When the walls of Jericho fell, “the people shouted with a great shout.”

Too many people have a false picture of worship: that it should always be quiet, reserved, serene. There is a time for that kind of worship, but there is a time also for God’s people to shout and make some noise! Ps. 47:1 - “Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!” Ps. 89:15 - “Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!” Ps. 95:1-2 - “Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.” Ps. 98:4 - “Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.” Ps. 100:1 - “Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing.”

There seems to be a connection between spiritual gladness, singing and shouting! How many times have you been in a service where a group was singing under the anointing, and the Spirit of God was speaking words of victory and joy to people’s hearts--and the next thing you know, people are shouting out loud, standing up, dancing, and jerking?! What’s happening? Their spirits are being touched by Holy Spirit; Should that bother you? NO! It’s spiritual worship! “God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in `spirit and in truth.” Don’t be critical; don’t be scared. Simply realize that the natural is meeting the supernatural. And when the natural meets the supernatural, sometimes it’s more than the natural

can stand!
