Dr. Manfred Budzinski Hedwig Held

You are cordially invited to Berlin. The conference language will be English with qualified translation between English, Tamil and Singhalese.

Sri Lanka: Is war the only solution for the conflict? After the peace treaty was terminated at the beginning of 2008 by the Sri Lankan government, the military battle actions intensified themselves. Journalists and human right activists, critics of the government are pursued or "disappear", the costs of living climb extremely, corruption and nepotism are becoming normal. With the slogan Anti terror fight, the government sets exclusively on the military solution and promises to overcome yet the LTTE finally in 2008. The LTTE on their part promises a free Tamil Eelam. In spite of these very negative developments, there is no other persistent way as to find a political civil solution for the conflict. This conference will refer to the earlier Sri Lanka conferences in Bad Boll in order to strengthen the peace political approaches in the Sri Lankan civil society and to find support on the international level. Sri Lankan speakers report on the current situation in the country. Moreover we exchange views with international NGOS about experiences and perspectives on the conflict solution in Sri Lanka. Representatives of the German government, the EU and UN are invited in order to discuss about exits out of the muddled situation in Sri Lanka. Opportunities for informal get-together
