Recommendations for Controlled Temperature Concrete Minimum Ice required to produce below 24 degrees C Controlled Temperature Concrete of Grades 1 M 25 , M 30 and M 35 shall be 75% to 78 % of the water requirement. [15% to 20% Wastage margins to be considered while placing orders] Separate arrangement be made to feed crushed ice into batching plant. 2 And if such a arrangement is not available then the water with which the Controlled Temperature Concrete is being manufactured shall be cooled with Ice. Continuous heavy sprinkling with water at normal temperature be made on 10 mm and 20 mm aggregates during the periods when the ambient temperature is more than 25 degrees C. 3 The sprinkling shall mandatorily be adopted during sunny days for the day time from 8:00 Hours to 18:00 Hours Hourly record be maintained to monitor the temperature of Controlled Temperature Concrete at 4 placement points.This shall include Temperature of Controlled Temperature Concrete at the production points and placement points. As a thumb rule , temperature of Ice Cold Water with which the Controlled Temperature Concrete is 5 manufactured shall be not more than 3 degrees C especially during the period when the ambient temperature is more than 24 degrees C 6 Grade of O.P.Cement to be explored as 43 for the Controlled Temperature Concrete. 7 The Cement level to be maintained at its mimnimal level as per IS 456. 8

Use of PPC and Fly Ash blended O.P.Cement to be encouraged for the use. Such blended Cement or PPC shall be avoided for foundations meant for dynamic loadings.

Concrete Mix is to be designed / redesigned / modified considering 6 , 7 and 8 above as per the requirement of site.

The pouring of Controlled Temperatuure Concrete shall begin in the evening hours, preferably after 10 17 Hours; to take full advantage of ambient temperature of atmosphere, temperatures of sand, 10 mm, 20 mm aggregates and normal water. Speed of placement and finishing helps to minimize problems in hot weather i.e. ambient temperatures more than 32 degrees C. Delays contribute to loss of workability and lead to use of 11 additional mixing water to offset such loss. Ample personnel shall be employed to handle and place concrete immediately on delivery. 12

The pipes meant for transportation of Ice Cold Water from Water Tank to Batching plant shall be well insulated and / or coloured and maintained white or yellow.

The Transit Mixers meant for transportation of Controled Temperature Concrete from Batching 13 Plants to its placement points shall be well insulated and / or coloured and maintained white or yellow.
