DESIGN BRIEF (THE PROBLEM)
•
The design brief — A statement explaining the task drawn up in consultation with the client and the lecturer.
•
Specifications — (the criteria)
Constraints (not negotiable) Considerations (flexible)
•
The client profile - (client considerations)
Problem: Lack of time to write reports and assess student work. Requirements: Enter class details, task details and rubrics. Click rubrics that automatically calculate results and add a comment based on the rubric selections.
2
INVESTIGATION (SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS) •
Brainstorming ideas
•
Criteria for evaluation — these come from the design brief. Justify each criteria.
•
Investigation — this will assist the student to gather information to aid their design. This could include; materials, processes, trends, ergonomics, past solutions, cost analysis, environment, and others.
3.
4
DESIGN (RANGE OF SOLUTIONS) •
Design options — three options that would solve the problem
•
A preferred option that answers the design brief
PRODUCTION (CREATE) •
5
6
Production plan and production of the solution/product (include timelines, materials, processes etc.)
ANALYZE (comparative analysis of solution to the design brief) •
An analysis of the product and the processes used, based on the design brief criteria.
•
Personal reflection and feedback.
EVALUATE (field testing of the solution/product)
•
Evaluation of the solution from the client’s feedback, and others. (peer) •
NOTE:
Performance appraisal of solution/product in a real-world (or simulated) context.
A journal or client log to be maintained to document the time taken for each stage. Photos or digital images will enable a visual record of the Design Process
