The design brief — A statement explaining the task drawn up in consultation with the client and the lecturer.

Problem: Lack of time to write reports and assess student work. Requirements: Enter class details, task details and rubrics. Click rubrics that automatically calculate results and add a comment based on the rubric selections.

INVESTIGATION (SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS) •

Brainstorming ideas



Criteria for evaluation — these come from the design brief. Justify each criteria.



Investigation — this will assist the student to gather information to aid their design. This could include; materials, processes, trends, ergonomics, past solutions, cost analysis, environment, and others.

Design options — three options that would solve the problem



A preferred option that answers the design brief

PRODUCTION (CREATE) •

Production plan and production of the solution/product (include timelines, materials, processes etc.)

ANALYZE (comparative analysis of solution to the design brief) •

An analysis of the product and the processes used, based on the design brief criteria.



Personal reflection and feedback.

EVALUATE (field testing of the solution/product)



Evaluation of the solution from the client’s feedback, and others. (peer) •

NOTE:

Performance appraisal of solution/product in a real-world (or simulated) context.

A journal or client log to be maintained to document the time taken for each stage. Photos or digital images will enable a visual record of the Design Process
