OBJECTIVE(S) 

Students would be able to determine the density of the liquid.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES 

To determine the density of the common liquid (water, oil, dishwashing liquid.

DISCUSSION Density is defined as the mass per unit volume of a fluid. Every fluid has its corresponding density. In this experiment we used water, oil and dishwashing liquid. We will get their corresponding mass and volume so that we can get their density.

PROCEDURES 1. Find the mass of an empty graduated cylinder in grams.

2. Pour 50 mL of water into the graduated cylinder. Try to be as accurate as possible by checking that the meniscus is right at the 50-mL mark. Use a dropper to add or remove small amounts of water.

3. Weigh the graduated cylinder with the water in it. Record the mass in grams.

4. Find the mass of only the water by subtracting the mass of the empty graduated cylinder. Record the mass of 50 mL of water in the chart. 5. Use the mass and volume of the water to calculate density. Record the density in g/cm3 in the chart.

OBSERVATION(S) We prepared three common liquids, which is the water, oil, and dishwashing liquid. We put 50 ml each of the liquid in every graduated cylinder, after putting the liquid into the cylinder we get the mass and volume of it in order to get the density of the liquid. CONCLUSION(S) We conclude that the density of the liquid that we used was 0.966 g/cm3 (for water), 0.904 g/cm3 (for oil), and 1.018 g/cm 3 (for dishwashing liquid). We will use this data for the experiment 2 which is the viscosity of the common liquid.

RECOMMENDATIONS 

It is recommended to use small scale balance when weighing the graduated cylinder and with the liquid in it.



When you pour a liquid in the graduated cylinder, always check its meniscus if it is in 50-ml mark.



Read thoroughly the level of liquid in the cylinder on the lower meniscus of the liquid to produce accurate results.
