Dengue is not transmittable from person to person.

Information about DENGUE FEVER  Dengue

virus in southern Pakistan has now spread to the north, partly because more people have been traveling across the country for Eid.

 The

Dengue virus is transmitted through mosquito bite to infected person and transfer it to healthy person through biting of that mosquito.

SYMPTOMS  High fever, up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit  Severe headache  Retro-orbital (behind the eye) pain  Severe joint and muscle pain  Nausea and vomiting  Rash

PRECAUTIONS     

Use a mosquito repellant. Dress in protective clothing-long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and shoes Keeping unscreened windows and doors closed Keeping window and door screens repaired Getting rid of areas where mosquitoes breed, such as standing water in flower pots, containers, birdbaths, discarded tires, etc.

PRECAUTIONS 

At present, the only method of controlling or preventing dengue and DHF is to combat the vector mosquitoes.



Vector control is implemented using environmental management and chemical methods. Proper solid waste disposal and improved water storage practices, including covering containers to prevent access by egg laying female mosquitoes are among methods that are encouraged through community-based programmes.

STATISTICS OF DENGUE 

An estimated 500,000 cases of DHF (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever) require hospitalization each year, of whom a very large proportion are children. At least 2.5% of cases die, although case fatality could be twice as high.



Without proper treatment, DHF case fatality rates can exceed 20%. With modern intensive supportive therapy, such rates can be reduced to less than 1%.

STATISTICS OF DENGUE IN PAKISTAN 

Out of a total of 2,009 suspected dengue fever cases reported in Pakistan, 596 have been confirmed as positive cases, a Pakistani health official said Sunday.



Briefing reporters in Islamabad, Federal Secretary for Health Syed Anwar Mehmood said there have been 30 deaths reported so far due to the dengue fever across the country.
