2007 – All the Songs of Christmas Information Sheet: WHO: The Creative Arts Studio (CAS), a ministry of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church offering classes in music and art. WHAT: A display and silent auction of decorated Christmas trees and wreaths, along with holiday music, a CAS recital, and refreshments. WHERE: Inside Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, 1801 Rouse Road (the corner of Rouse and Colonial.) WHEN:

 Wednesday, November 28, from 7-9 p.m.  Thursday, November 29 and Friday, November 30, from 5-8 p.m.  Saturday, December 1, from 1-8 p.m.  Sunday, December 2, from 2-5 p.m., Bids close at 4:15 p.m.  CHRISTMAS SHOWCASE: Sunday, December 2, at 2:30 & at 4:30 p.m. WHY: To raise funds for music and art scholarship lessons for students who cannot afford them while supporting mission and community service activities for the youth group at Spirit of Joy. The display of trees and wreaths, along with live music, entertainment, and refreshments, will provide the community with a free holiday activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. HOW:

This is where we need your help! Consider decorating and donating a tree or wreath to the auction. The trees and wreaths will be provided for a small deposit. You get your creative juices flowing and decorate the tree or wreath and turn it in to us for display and auction. (You may receive your deposit back at this point or donate the money to the cause.)

Submissions will be judged and awarded ribbons, displayed, auctioned and then go off to decorate someone’s home or business. As a donor, your name or the name of your business/group will be on the brochure and the display table. If you are representing a business or non-profit group, you may even display business cards or advertising (approved by CAS) with your submission! Your contribution may also be tax deductible (consult your tax advisor for details.) As Shirley Brice Heath, Senior Scholar, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Professor of English and Linguistics, Stanford University, said, “Communities that support youthbased arts organizations do more than preserve and develop their youth for the future. They engage the creative energies of youth in positive ways that enrich community life and culture today.” This will be a fun holiday event for all ages to enjoy and a way for you to help youth in the community. 2007 – All the Songs of Christmas To help make this a successful display and silent auction, we ask that you abide by the following: • No perishable decorations (i.e. fresh flowers, perishable food, etc.) permitted. • Candles may be used, but they will not be lit during the display and auction period. • U/L approved lights may be used and will be lit during the display and auction period. While lights are not mandatory, we encourage you to use them on your tree. Last year’s judges felt they enhanced the display. • Affix all decorations to the tree/wreath in such a way that will ensure they will not accidentally fall off during the display and auction period. • For businesses or non-profit groups, business cards or other advertising (approved by CAS) may be brought in for distribution. • Nothing attached or displayed on or with the tree/wreath will be returned to you. Extra business cards or other advertising should be picked up no later than December 9. Judging: As the primary purpose for this event is to raise money for the CAS Scholarship Fund, the judging is strictly for fun and to spur good-natured competition. Judges will be looking for well-executed and creative designs as well as overall aesthetic value. Trees and wreaths will be judged separately from each other and ribbons will be awarded in the following categories: Individuals = single person, couple or family unit. Adult Bracket (18 years and older) Youth Bracket (17 years and younger)

Groups=Business or Non-Profit Adult Brackets (18 years and older) Youth Bracket (17 years and younger)

Top three wreaths and top three trees in each bracket will be awarded ribbons. “Best in Show” = awarded from the four first place winners of wreaths and trees combined. “Peoples Choice”= awarded by votes from individuals viewing the displays. “Best in Theme” = awarded to the wreath and tree best depicting the song of Christmas. Addition of other categories depends upon the number of participants. Submitting your contribution: Please deliver all trees/wreaths to the Creative Arts Studio between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 26. Trees/wreaths turned in after Nov. 27 will be auctioned but will not be eligible for judging. Remember to provide a title for your tree or wreath. Winners will be announced the opening night of the display on November 28 at 7:30 P.M.
