EDITORIAL Dear readers, Greetings to you!! It is a pleasure for the literary committee of IHM DEHRADUN to present before you the 8 th Edition of our college magazine ‘Miles ‘n’ Smiles’. Very few realize the wealth of sympathy, kindness, and generosity wrapped in the word ‘Hospitality’. The budding hoteliers of IHM DEHRADUN are now ready to ignite a spark in their minds to live a life of an entrepreneur and show that the skills they have learnt during these years of being a graduate are really acting as a catalyst of setting up their own stage to show their talent. This edition of “Miles ‘n’ Smiles’ of the year 2018-2019 has brought us forward to have a look on the various startups and self-employments during from the past decade and show that the “STARTUPS -are the new trends in hospitality”, which is also the theme of our annual magazine 2018-2019. Giving a picturesque detail of all the events, activities and laurels brought by our talented students this magazine takes you in a depth of what Startups basically are and how swiftly are they being spreading all over the hospitality world. Sponsered by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India on the theme of the “Swacchta Action Plan’ on October 1st 2018 the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Noida had organized a national and regional level quiz and essay writing competition-2018 in which we were the winners at the Regional level held at the IHM Gurdaspur in the Essay writing competition in which Tejasvi Kumar Handa of the 3rd year of B.Sc.(HHA) stood first among the eight hotel management colleges and won a cash price of Rs. 10000/- and also qualified in the national level but unfortunately did not able to win any position there. It was a great literary experience and a learning program for the students of IHM DEHRADUN. The exposure to these type of national competitions boost up the enthusiasm inside the students to participate in these type of events and competitions and show their talent apart from the busy study schedule.
