Inserting the Date and Time Today’s Date - Friday, September 19, 2008 The Insert Date and Time command puts the date (and/or time) into a document. The date can be inserted as a specific value (the date and time on which the command is executed) or as a field. The latter is updated automatically from the computer’s internal clock whenever the document is opened or when the document is printed. Either way, the date may be printed in a variety of formats as shown below. Date is a Specific Value September 17, 2008 Wednesday, September 17, 2008 9/17/2008 17 September 2008 9/17/2008 10:08 AM

Press Alt+F9 to toggle between field codes and displayed values. Any date that is entered as a field is shaded by default. You can change that, however, by using the Options command in the Tools menu. (Select the View tab and click the drop-down arrow in the Field Shading list box to choose the option you want.) The columns feature was also used to create this document. There are three sections as can be seen from the status bar. The middle is formatted for two columns. (Use Ctrl+Shift+Enter to create a column break.)
