Very useful book, Each One A Minister / - Acknowledging / - NA/ - NA The format of the instructor presenting a homily / - Orientation No complete syllabus should have been provided at the beginning (I was greatly disturbed by this). Time frame, again, should have been extended / - Huge improvement over last year-Yes / Time-the program could have been spread out over a longer period of time eg. 3-5 for X weeks. Being repeatedly told “You are late!” When adults make commitments they adhere as best they can, No one likes to be berated. / - Orientation needs a little more organizing. If start time is important, start orientation on time to set the standard Looking at Spiritual gifts and relating to life. Very tactful the way the instructor handled it / Absolutely, exploring different forms of ministry / (a) a representative from each class on the planning program committee, (b) Would like to see more guided discussion (c) develop a rubric for each homily to be used by each instructor only / - Still need a little work on opening, discerning God’s will 2

The last day was to have been an instructional day, it was spent on rehearsal that took all of the time, and in my opinion did not achieve the desired goal. I felt cheated of valuable instructions and discussions / Great improvement keep plugging on the organizational aspects / - This Lay Speaking training program did not meet my expectations at all. Instead of helping us learn to develop effective speech delivery skills, we had a course that was focused on discovering our spiritual gifts. This is fine; but not at all what was expected. I did enjoy the course content, but we spent more time in discussion than sharing our thoughts as a homily and receiving constructive criticism. I felt that it was a course in personal spiritual discovery and development, which as I said before was fine. Our instructors are knowledgeable and challenged us; I just did not feel that we devoted enough time to lay speaking skills. (Para) In order to improve, I think the schedule needs to be carefully examined. There is an inordinate amount of wasted time. Quite frankly, I attend church on Sunday morning. I do not feel that we need a worship experience at all before beginning class. I think the topics presented by the guest speakers are interesting and useful, but we do not need a miniature worship service. (Para) Another area that needs further evaluation is the snack. I do not believe that a snack is necessary. If you do, maybe people can bring their own and eat during class discussion. (Para) I sincerely believe that there is a lot of wasted time and we are here for a specific purpose and the committee is not responding to that desire. I am also very offended by the disrespectful tone shown last week. We are adults and we do not need to be treated as if we are 5 years old or younger. Nobody deserves berating / - The instructors were knowledgeable and informative, they encouraged class participation, which I feel contributed to our spiritual growth. The registration process went smoothly. Sunday classes make for a long day, suggest holding classes on Saturday. Rehearsal could have gone better, I suggest you think it out or plan how rehearsal should play out prior to involving the class. Overall it was a wonderful experience. 1-3 / - 1-3 / 7-9 (Liturgist, Choir) / - 1-3 / Anika Bailey (313-543-9434) / Deborah Cochran (248-668-2684) Respondent #3 checked 4 above and typed a general feedback, noted in Yellow in 16 above / Respondent #4 had handwritten feedback which is noted in Turquoise above

The history of the church / - Discussion, the course really took on a new dimension of relevance because of the comments and feedback of the class. The instructor did well to let the conversation go. -The constant referring to the past, mistakes of the past classes / - The dress rehearsal - Expectation was to gain a deeper knowledge of the Bible and Effectively lead a worship service, this was accomplished / - Course was OK, appropriate topics for Basic level - Time frame the class could be cut to 2 to 2.5 hrs if it is focused on teaching / - Preaching topics let us know more in advance of topics (hard to read his writing) -Yes, the origin of John #Wesley and his vision for the church / - Yes, but greatest contribution came in allowing the class to discuss issues - Again, a time frame and be aware of other church’s worship times as most students are already leaders in their church / - For my first training, even with my comments, I would still have attended / - Re: Dress Rehearsal – this was an activity for the Board and not the Student! Recommend next year that the Board pick 1 individual (not the Director) whose responsibility is the Service and 4

That I was able to gain additional information regarding leadership/ -Having 2 course instructors provided various perspectives Wilma was dynamic / -Make me more open & mindful of myself and my walk with God / -Communion of like souls / -Group discussion & visiting Pastors talks /-Hearing the different opinions of the group / - There was nothing least useful/ - Should have been longer/ - Reading the book aloud (Again)/ most of the Basic material had been covered in other material I had taken/- The manner of approach 5

that the material was covered. Having 9 years experience as a formal school instructor in the military, I could tell the teachers not once pre-planned their period of instruction Somewhat, since the expectations of a Lay Speaker have changed/ - I would have liked information on Sermon Building/ -Yes / - Had no expectations/ -Yes, the course gives a basic view of Lay Ministry. There was not much taught on “Speaking” /- During discussion, the instructor (Kathi) would either lose control of the discussion or she herself would lead the groupu in to a topic that was unrelated The time schedule and not being tactful with those whom have other obligations that are coming from other locations/ - Gap was in the programming for the Basic. Unfortunately our Pastor was unaware of the change of programming this year/ -Training approach / - Curriculum, I think most people already have an understanding of what was covered/ - I feel I was let down. I thought the curriculum was going to cover the role of the lay Reader and I don’t see how it did, it may be helpful in the future for the Basic class to remember some are new to Lay Reading and need guidance to follow Yes/ - Yes/ -Yes, more open to my leadership not only in Church but also in the community / -Yes, the Communicating chapter was the most useful to me / - When the topic was kept on track, the instructor did well, “Exploring God’s Call” was the most value that I got form the entire course/ - An opportunity for the Basic class to over an actual plan of Service and how to recognize or spiritually discern where the service is moving/ - None/ - A deeper Basic class/ - Attached Typed Input : The instructors need ot be better prepared for their periods of instruction, Proper Prior Planning “ALWAYS” Prevents Poor Performance. I feel the course material is not on track with what a person freshly entering the lay reading need. Yes, there is a lot of useful information found within the “Basic Course Participant’s Book”, but the instructors did not refer to the Bible nor the Book of Discipline nearly enough, When I first signed on to take this course it called for me to have ht eBook of Discipline, so I went and purchased it, Though the book will be very useful to me, and I have no regret purchasing the book, the course did not justify the purchase of the book. / - / - / - / - I really enjoyed the diversity in my group, it brought about interesting discussions. Wilma & Kathi allowed us to share our views w/o being worried about not finishing a chapter /- Attached Typed Input: The course was somewhat disappointing to me. I myself thought that the course would go into greater detail as to the role of the Lay reader within he church. I do not feel this was accomplished. Some people within the leadership of the school made me feel that I was not important nor was I up to their level. An example was the second week of class, I was approached and informed that the check I had written to attend the course was returned for insufficient funds in my account. The comment was made that I was aware of the insufficient funds the day that I wrote the check, this is far from the truth. This also shows that under some sheep’s wool. If felt that what I had to say to some was not important, leaders of the course would just turn and walk away when I attempted to speak to them, leaders of the school were very friendly to some, but when I tried to 6

speak to them they made me feel as if they didn’t know me therefore I was not worthy speaking to them. I for one and glad the course is over and I can move on taking the little bit that I did learn and apply it in trying to bring the congregation I belong to alive again Demo graphi cs 17 18 19

The historical value and content of the life of John Wesley and the contribution of class members The workbook Yes, it was well supported by members and No, I guess I would have wanted to do all the classwork, time was our enemy Time to produce the work required for the workbook – a full semester could have been used. We had to race through a lot, too much listed as work. No materials were provided like colored paper, etc but no time to use it either Yes, Clarity was received by book and instructor – history topic best for deep background. I will read further on my own Some of us were in seminary and others in ministry , while others only Certified. I learned from them all, but felt uneducated by some standards and unclear on divided issues (???), specific topics A class as John Wesley & other preachers of his time. WE be great for roots sake-I loved the interaction of the knowledgeable people, besides the instructors – Esrom & Marge are very energetic about God 4-6 yr
