Creator/Sustainer (Ps. 104:24-35) God’s wisdom/creative design is revealed in nature (Ps. 104:24, Rom. 1:20) Meticulous creation = passionate concern Leviathan (Ps. 104:26)- Prof. M.D. Cassuto and others explain the reason Leviathan were singled out is to combat idolatrous beliefs current at the time. Near Eastern mythology attributed divinity to these sea monsters; thus the Torah states specifically that God created them. (Rom. 1:25) All living creatures are dependent upon God and He is ultimately in control of all life (Ps. 104:27-30) We need not be anxious because Our Father, who loves us, will provide for us (Matt. 6:25-34) He gives “food” at the proper time/in due season (Lev. 26:4, Deut. 11:14, Ps. 104:27, 136:35, 145:15, Prov. 15:23, Matt. 24:45, Luke 12:42, Gal. 6:9) He opens His hand with good things that fill/satisfy (Ps. 103:5, 104:28, 132:15, Isa. 58:11, Lev. 25:19, Prov. 3:10, Matt. 14:20, 15:37, Mark 6:42, 8:8, Luke 1:53, John 6:13 & 26) We must gather it up (Gen. 6:21, Ex. 16:4, Lev. 25:3, Deut. 11:14, Ps. 104:28) If God hides His face = exposure to evil/terror/suffering results (Deut. 31:17, Ps. 104:29, 143:7) That is why the Psalmist prays instead that God will rejoice in His works (Ps. 104:31, Rev. 4:11) If God takes away His breath = death results (Ps. 33:6, 104:29, Gen. 2:7, 6:17, 7:22, Job 27:3, 33:4, Ecc. 3:19, Isa. 42:5, Ezek. 37:5-10, Dan. 5:23, Acts 17:25) His Spirit creates and renews (Ps. 51:10, 104:30, Isa. 40:31, 65:17, Rom. 12:2, 2 Cor. 4:16, 5:17, Col. 3:10, Eph. 4:23, Titus 3:5) How should we react to all this? Sing praise (Ps. 104:33, Rev. 5:13) Meditate = give serious, reflective consideration (Ps. 48:9; 77:12; 104:34, 119:15, 23, 27, 48, 78, 97 & 99, 143:5; 145:5) Rejoice (Ps. 104:34)
