Chapter 1 1. Relay integration. 1.1.1. Types of micom relays. The components within Micom are: • P range protection relays; • C range control products; • M range measurement products for accurate metering and monitoring; P RANGE RELAYS: In P range relays having 4 series. They are 1. 2. 3. 4.

PX1X - 10 series (ex: P211) PX2X - 20 series (ex: P122) PX3X - 30 series (ex: P632) PX4X - 40 series (ex: P442)

1.1.2. Protocols. A communications protocol is a formal description of digital message formats and the rules for exchanging those messages in or between computing systems and in telecommunications. Protocols may include signaling, authentication and error detection and correction capabilities. A protocol describes the syntax, semantics, and synchronization of communication and may be implemented in hardware or software, or both.

Types of protocols: Areva micom relays are having 5 protocols. They are 1. Courier 2. Modbus 3. IEC 103 4. DNP3 5. IEC61850

3

Protocol limitations: Every protocol having some limitation. According to limitations only we can access the data’s from that relays. The limitations are given below.

4

1.1.3. CONNECTION DIAGRAM: BASIC CONNECTION DIAGRAM: There are two types of media we are using in relay communication. 1. RS 485 2. KBUS The above two types are having two wire and one screen only.

EXAMPLES: CONNECTION DIAGRAM OF PX40 SERIES IED TO PC P442 TO PC: HARD WARE CONNECTIN DISCRIPTION:

7

Connection Description: P442 relay having a RS 485 pin in rear port. we have to configure the relay to k-bus media standard and courier protocol and given a address for. the relay and do the same for the next relay .

TO CHANGE THE MEDIA AND PROTOCOL: Only change the media to k-bus standard.(Enter into configuration –and change the media to k-bus.) From RS 485(9 pin-male) connect the 4 pin to red color wire and 7 th pin to block color .prepared 2 sets. The terminal block present in the 2 panels are connected parallel and form a loop.(red-red, block to block, screen to screen ) Now connect the RS 485 wire (which is already soldered) to TB (R-R,BB,S-S) and get the wire link to pc. after check the continuity. Whether any short circuit present then find that and rectify that. Now connect the red color wire to the Kitz converter in the in no 1. And connect the block color wire to the pin 2.

The Kitz converter input is k-bus media and courier protocol and the output is RS 232 media and courier protocol. Now connect the 25 pin cord to pc and do the testing using software. or otherwise use one 25 male pin on kitz side and use RS 232 female pin to pc side. RS 232 25 male pin 2 7

PC side 9 pin female port 2 5

After that we have to connect the kalki converter to the kitz because we need to connect the relays to the BHEL –SCADA.

8

Connection for 30 series:

STEPS FOR CONFIGURATION: Connect the device through front port and create the device .then down load the settings Change the settings as given bellow. 1.Open the settings file and select the parameter config parameter-com-1 Function group ----- with General enable user –yes. IEC 103 –yes Comm. Protocol-IEC 103 Occt add - relay address-1 (as per the requirement) Asdu add-relay address-1 (as per the requirement) 2. same settings for comm. 2.

9

20 SERIES RELAY :(P122,P127,P220) Here two types is there Communication protocol –modbus Communication protocol –kbus

Connection diagram is same for all 20 series.

Protocol is modbus then use RS485/RS232 converter.

Protocol is courier(k bus) then use kitz converter.

10

Configuration of 20 series relay: In 20 series relays relay only 2 settings you have to change. 1. Communication –yes 2. Relay address –as per req. Some of the 20 series relay having the baud rate options then you can set -19200.

40 series relay with Ethernet port (RJ45): Connection diagram: ,

configuration of relay: Establish the connection through front port of the relay. download the mcl file(active bank and inactive bank). Open the active bank file select the model no and open the communication .tool bar lock symbol is there click the lock symbol. Now enter the IP address and sub net mask . Save the file and send it to relay. . Configuration of computer: 1. Choose the net work places. 2. Select the lan and go for properties.

11

3 inter net (TCP/IP) protocol and give the IP address in the same class and subnet mask should be same for relay and pc gate way also same. After connecting the relay and pc through ether net as usual same step like 40 series select the Ethernet instead of rear port.

12

1.2. MICOM s1 studio 1.2.2. Creating new project Step: 1 Install the soft ware in the desktop. Connect the the kalki to the pc. Double click the icon AREVA MICOM STDIO 1

13

Step2: Click the new on the studio explorer. Give the name and then click ok.

14

Step3: Right click the system and select the new device.

Step 4:

15

Select the device type. I The device is p442 then select px40 series The device is p437 then select px30 series Center digit decides the series of the device.

16

Step 4: Select the device& give next

17

Step 5: Then enter the model no which is specified on the front panel of the relay and then give next.

18

Step6: Then check the software version if it is 2.0 then clicks next.

19

Step 7: Enter the name and then finish.

Step 8:

20

Click the Quick Connect

21

Step9: Then Select the Series

22

Step 10: Then Select the Port That We Are Connecting

If It Is rear port then click rear port

23

Step 11:

The device is now connected to the pc. If it is not connected then click the modify the connection parameters.

24

Step 12: Check the port is correct and the baud rate is correct relay address is correct and the framing is should be 11 bits. If the response time should be high because the device taking more time to connect.

Change the parameters and click “save the current parameters as default” And then click back.

25

Step 12: Then press “retry the connection”.

26

Step 13: Now the device is connected to the pc.

27

STEP-14: Connection success then give a name for the and click finish

28

Step 16: Right click the setting and click the extract settings. First time it will take more than 10 minutes .

29

Step-17: The operation will success then close the window.

30

Step 18: The system data will give the information about language model no, software version is c2.9.

31

Step 19: Date and time will give the date and time.

32

Step20: If you want to change the configuration then change and send to the relay.

33

Step 21: Record control will show the events which will occurred on the system.

34

35

36

37

38

Extract events: To down load the events right click the events and select the extract events.

Extract disturbances: Want to download the disturbance records right click the dr and select extrac disturbances, choose any one disturbance and give save .the file will saved under the disturbance record.

To see measurements: Right click the measurements and select the new file. Connection will be tested. Then select add choose the measurements. give ok the measurements will be shown. To give a pole command then it will shown the measurements continuously.

39

Chapter 3: Time synchronization of micom relays:

3.1.1.For 40 series: Go for date and time in the 40 series relay though keypad ad change the irig-b disabled to enable. after connect the un modulated signal from gps to relay . now check the signal status under the irig –b signal.

3.1.2.For 30 series: Open the settings and select the main under this irigb is there changed the disable mode into enable mode. Connect the un modulated output to the relay ‘s irigb port .the elay will be time synchronized.
