SCOPE Soils subjected to compression loads, decrease in volume (consolidation) and this is due to water and air in the voids starting to escape. Objectives
General: Determine the speed and degree of settlement that a sample of saturated clay soil will experience, as well as some increases in load or pressure, in a given time interval.
Materials Unaltered sample, which is contained in a shelby tube. Blade. Balance Vernier calibrator. Ring consolidation Spatula and containers for moisture testing. 2 porous metal stones Fixed ring consolidation capsule.
Consolidometer. 10. Loads of 1.5, 3, 6 and 12 Kg.
Preparation of the sample/ Proccess
