Welcome to your first year at Calhoun High School. This is the first year of a two-year course. At the end of 10th grade you will take both the AP World History exam and the state regents exam. These exams will test your knowledge from both 9th and 10th grade. The purpose of this course is to gain a global perspective on the past. This means studying the historical experiences of all the world’s peoples and their interactions. By bringing a global perspective to the study of world history, we will seek an understanding of the past that places the contemporary world in meaningful historical context. This honors course will require more time and effort, both on my part and yours, than the regents level global course. Your success in this course depends on the amount of time and effort you put into it. If you are not willing to put the extra time and effort, then it is not for you. This course is a lot of work but also extremely interesting and challenging. Materials Needed: ♦ Three ring binder ♦ Loose-leaf paper ♦ 4 Pens, 4 Pencils ♦ Highlighters ♦ Assignment book. This will be given to you during the first few days of school. * MATERIALS ARE TO BE BROUGHT TO CLASS EVERYDAY, UNLESS OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED. Remember- Textbooks are to stay at home. * Grading Policy: Each graded assignment will be given a certain amount of points (tests are usually 100 points, quizzes 25, homework 10, etc.) The larger the assignment is the greater number of points possible. Your marking quarter grade will be determined by totaling the number of points you earned on all your assignments and dividing it by the total number of points possible. Class participation points will be based upon classroom behavior, completion of assignments and attendance. * HOMEWORK POINTS WILL EQUAL AT LEAST TWO TEST GRADES (200 points) !!!!!!!! Classroom Policies: 1. Be on time 2. Be prepared (note materials needed for class)
