Lab : 1 Charts What is chart? A diagram showing the relation between variable quantities, typically of two variables, each measured along one of a pair of axes at right angle.
Some types of chart
Line chart Column chart Pie chart
Line Chart. A line chart or line graph is a type of chart which displays information as a series of data points called 'markers' connected by straight line segments. It is a basic type of chart common in many fields. It is similar to a scatter plot except that the measurement points are ordered (typically by their x-axis value) and joined with straight line segments. A line chart is often used to visualize a trend in data over intervals of time – a time series – thus the line is often drawn chronologically. In these cases they are known as run charts. The line graph consists of a horizontal x-axis and a vertical y-axis. Most line graphs only deal with positive number values, so these axes typically intersect near the bottom of the y-axis and the left end of the x-axis.
Figure 1
The above fig shows a line chart of students result this is a complete result of students.First column shows students names then subjects such as physics, chemistry, math, pak.studies and islamiat. Then total marks and marks obtained are present and then at last the total percentage of students is present. Chart explanation
Our chart is a line chart in which the title of the chart is students result. X axis shows the percentage. Y axis shows the subject. Different colours are used for different subjects. The peak line shows the highest percentage. In last column the gardes are present of each student. This graph shows the complete detail of subjects. We can change the formate of graph and styles easily.
Column chart A column chart is a graphic representation of data. Column charts display verticalbars going across the chart horizontally, with the values axis being displayed on the left side of the chart. The picture below is an example of a column chart displaying the unique visitors Computer Hope has received between the years of 2000 and 2006. As can be seen in this example, you can immediately see a gentle increase of users without reading any data.
Figure 2
This fig shows a column graph of shoping from a shop.customer buy different items on x axis different prices are shown and on y axis the items are shown and different colours are used for each item as follows
Blue color shows rice Orange color shows wheat Gray color shows noodles Yellow color shows shampoo Light blue color shows oil Green color shows eggs Strong blue color shows bread Violet color shows hand sanitizer Silver color shows body spray Hence on the x axis price are shown and on the y axis different items are shown on the gragh the last column peal is high for body spray Which shows the highest price of body spray. Orange color for wheat has lowest column peak which shows the lowest price of the wheat hence in this way all the prices are displayed on the graph And hence we can easily understand these prices
Pie chart A pie chart (or a circle chart) is a circular statistical graphic, which is divided into slices to illustrate numerical proportion.
Figure 3
This is pie chart which shows the use of mobile phone applications since 2001 to 2008
First column shows the calls Second shows the internet Third column shows the sending and receive messages Fourth column shows the playing games Fifth column shows the play music Last column shows the record video The pie chart is in the form of circle and divided into different regions the large area region shows the largest usage of that application In this chart the blue area is large which shows that percentage of making calls is largest during these years Hence the green area is small which shows that record videos during these years is in small ratio.
Chart for GPA calculating
Figure 4
This is column chart of a GPA which involve following steps
In first column we write the subjects. In 2nd column we write grades then grade point equivalent then credit hours and then grade points Fist we sum the credit hours Then we sum the garde points At last divide the grade points by credits Then we represent it on the column chart in which the highest peak show the largest grades. Different colours are used for each subject.
