A N I NTRODUCTION T O A N EW B EGINNING … Perhaps you are looking to create a new relationship or better an existing one. Maybe you are looking to increase you financial situation or further your career. You could be trying to overcome an addiction or deal with a health challenge. Whatever it is you want to change are not alone. For years people have sought ways to change how they experience life. Techniques such as NLP, EFT, Hypnosis, The Sedona Method and many more have become increasingly popular. Self Help books sell in their millions and Personal Development Seminars are now being run all around the world to cater for this desire to change. Even science has jumped on board trying to uncover how the brain works, how it can be improved and the relationship between thoughts, emotions and our health. As our understanding grows so too does our ability to get better and better results, yet these different techniques often remain isolated. Take weight loss as an example. You may go to a nutritionalist who would recommend supplements as a diet plan. A personal trainer will suggest a workout routine. A hypnotherapist could provide additional support to reduce food cravings. An EFT therapist would help remove emotional issues that cause you to eat or your cravings for sweet foods. In my experience as a therapist however I have found that most people often benefit from a combined approach. Causes for imbalances are rarely isolated. Enter My Desktop Therapist (MDT). This short guide focuses around using the Free My Desktop Therapist Software to build a program that uses many cutting edge personal development techniques to help support your transformational process. (If you do not already have a copy you can download one now from www.MydesktopTherapist.com.) As well as being able to create your own support programs the MDT are working hard to build pre written professional programs to address many of the core issues for a number of different day to day problems. These include workbooks and educational advice as well as programs to run inside the MDT software to help automate and facilitate the process. These programs are great if you want some help creating one or don’t have the time to write your own. That said writing your own, or customizing and existing program, can be very rewarding. This guide will show you a variety of personal development techniques and how to make the most of them using your MDT software. Whatever you choose to do, the My Desktop Therapist team wish you every success.

C REATING A N EW P ROGRAM Click on programs and choose ‘New Program’. Give your program a name and click OK. Now you are ready to begin creating the content... There are 3 options: 1. Flashing Objects 2. Audio 3. Sessions 1 . F L A S H I N G O B J E C T S allows you to create a series of text messages and/or images that will flash on your screen while you work. These flashing objects can be set as transparent, so you only notice them if you consciously look for them. Your subconscious however can see them. I call this technique semi‐subliminal learning. Why do I call it semi‐subliminal learning? Because with true subliminal learning the conscious mind cannot see, or is not aware of the images or audio being used. However there is also a lot of debate as to how effective full subliminal learning actually is. With semi‐subliminal learning the conscious mind can see or hear any text, images or audio being used. But the conscious mind quickly filters it from its awareness, while the subconscious continues to process it. 2 . A U D I O allows you to layer different audio files to achieve very specific results. Most programs are composed of two primary files. A semi‐subliminal audio track and a brain wave frequency track. MDT includes a third track to allow for any relaxing or background music you may wish to use. The semi‐subliminal audio is very similar to the text and images. It contains the messages, information and instructions for your brain to create the new mental programming you are trying to achieve. It is set at a volume the conscious mind can hear, but can easily ignore. The brainwave frequency audio contains frequencies that use the law of harmonic resonance. Harmonic resonance adjusts your brain’s primary operating frequency to a more optimal state. It is possible to measure your brains frequencies. These have been shown to change depending on your state of mind and what you are doing. If you are sleeping these frequencies are much slower, than when you are overtly stimulated. By taking the optimal frequencies for learning and focus and playing them back to your mind ‐ it begins to adjust itself to match the audio. When we do this at the same time as the semi‐subliminal audios, we create an enhanced result. 3 . S E S S I O N S allows you to create a series of Tasks with Task Groups. This can be used to remind you to do certain exercises, guided meditations, EFT sessions or visualization of your goals. This is a very versatile module. You can use it to sequence images, text, audio or video in a series of ‘frames’. These can be triggered every hour (or any user defined set number of minutes), or at specific times on specific days. This module is designed to exercise the conscious mind. It requires you to stop what you are doing. And to actively participate in whatever you have asked it to ask you to do. You will now learn how to create content for each section in way that will ensure maximum effectiveness…

FLASHING OBJECTS In this section you will learn how to create optimal Flashing Objects. This can be broken down into two types ‐ text and images. The text objects are essentially affirmations that can trigger your brain up to 3600 times every hour. The images work in the same way as a vision board ‐ reminding you what you are trying to achieve. PHRASING TEXT OBJECTS It is important to phrase text objects in the proper way. This is easy, so long as you check each one follows these 6 simple rules: K E E P P H R A S E S S H O R T The shorter the better (ideally no more than 3‐5 words). Research has shown a single word repeated can affect the emotional state of an individual. A set of words that contain the same meaning and then sequenced individually, will be more powerful than a complex sentence detailing the intention. KEEP PHRASES POSITIVE Use phrases that say what you want (not what you don’t want). Sometimes this is easier said than done. The trick is to avoid words such as “don’t, no, non, no longer, not” M A K E P H R A S E S E M O T I O N A L Create positive emotion whenever possible. Get excited about the change you are aiming towards. Use phrases such as “I enjoy... I love... I am excited to... I welcome… I embrace...” B E H O N E S T Do not lie to yourself. If you are not a millionaire do not tell yourself you are. Instead create choices or acknowledge change such as “I choose to be... I allow myself to... I am becoming ...” These are more believable to your mind than straight lies. Lies meet mental resistance and create disharmony. They force the brain to focus on the reasons why the message is not true ‐ the opposite of your desired result. B E S P E C I F I C Avoid being vague. Set specific, achievable, well defined goals for yourself. Don’t say to yourself “I am thin” say instead, “I now choose to weigh 65kg” USE PRESENT TENSE Phrase your words in the present tense. Don’t say, “I am going to… I wish I were…” Instead say “I am now…” Your subconscious mind does not understand the difference between present and future. Use this to your advantage by phrasing things in the now.
C R E A T IN G F L A S H I N G T E X T M E S SA G E S Define exactly what you are trying to achieve. Be very clear of the outcome you want. If things were perfect what would they look like? What would be different? How would you feel? Make sure you write these out. This forces you to be specific and makes it more real. Make a list of as many different phrases as you can think of to best bullet point your description from step one. Jot down anything that comes to mind. Don’t sensor yourself, edit or review what you write. Just let it flow. Go over the list you have just made. Look to see if there are any points that can be removed. Perhaps you stated that phrase better somewhere else in your list? Maybe it just does not feel right for some reason.

Go back over your edited list one phrase at a time. Ensure the 5 rules above are met. Improve each phrase where possible. Take your completed list and type it (one line at a time) into the MDT Flashing Objects editor.
C R E A T IN G F L A S H I N G I M A G E O B JE C T S Images can add an extra dimension to your affirmations. Your brain is very visual. Images create focus and emotion. You can generate desire, excitement, clarity, understanding and direction from an image. It is said an image is worth a thousand words. For the subconscious mind this certainly appears to be true. Vision boards have been used with great success for thousands of people around the world, to help manifest their goals. Now you can harness this power while you work using MDT. Spend some time looking for the right image. Make sure the image you choose is accurate in portraying what you wish to achieve. Thankfully Google has made this much easier than it used to be. Go to http://images.google.com to search the internet for images via a page of thumbnails. Another excellent service is http://www.istockphoto.com – be aware you will need to pay a small amount for each of these images. iStockPhoto does have the advantage that you can be sure you have the license to use the images for your personal use. Images need to be large enough to see (certainly not much smaller than 200px x 200px), but no larger than your monitors screen size (typically around 1024px x 800px or 1024px x 768px). POW ER T IP : If you are competent at using PhotoShop or similar photo editing software ‐ then paste an image of yourself into the photos. For example if you have a picture of a specific car you want, then put yourself behind the wheel. If it’s a specific house you desire, then put you and your family on the front porch. If you do not have PhotoShop you may like to check out http://gimp.org/ for some excellent free photo editing software. Collect the images you want to use and put them into a folder on your computer. You are now ready to add them into your MDT program. While editing the Flashing Objects file you will see an option to add an image. Click this button and locate the image you wish to add. Once you add the image it will appear in the text list as folder location on your PC. Don’t worry, when you play the program the image will display in its place. You can move the position of the images up and down within the text list to play at specific points within the text sequence. This means you can position the images throughout the Flashing Objects file, and put them near text phrases that are relevant to the image used.
O P T I M I Z IN G T H E F L A SH I N G O B J E C T S S E T T IN G S Once you have finished creating your Flashing Objects file you can fine tune the settings. The default settings are fairly optimal, so this stage is completely optional. To start, click ‘Settings’ in the left menu and make sure the ‘Flashing Objects’ tab is selected.

You can set the size, type and color of the font here. Make sure it is large and clear enough to read without straining. Next set the transparency to a point where the text is visible but not intrusive. You will find when you start using the Flashing Objects feature it may be a little annoying. Don’t panic, within a few minutes of using it you will not even notice it is there. Next make sure the flash rate is set to display the text/images for as short a time as possible while still being able to read what it says. With practice this can be surprisingly short, (around 100ms or less). You can then choose the frequency at which the objects are displayed. If set to 1.00 seconds, then one object will display every second. This means you will be exposed to one affirmation or one image every second. Some people find this too much and choose to set it at less. Personally I like as many as possible. ☺ There are a few extra options on this page. Most of these are down to personal preference. The only one that really needs explanation is the Smooth Fading. This will make each line of text or each image fade in and fade out when displayed. This simply helps make the Flashing Objects even less intrusive and gentler on the eye. You are now ready to fill the audio section of your MDT program...

ADDING AUDIO The audio component adds an extra dimension to the program. It allows you to combine brainwave technology and semi‐subliminal audio learning together. When creating a new, (or editing an existing), program you will see the Audio option. This allows you to add up to three separate audio tracks. The volume of each can be controlled separately which allows the perfect balance between each. Each track will play independently at the same time as the other(s) and will continually loop until stopped.
BRAINWAVE FREQUENCIES Using special software you can create brainwave patterns that will alter your mood and ability to focus or learn. To save you time we have already created special audio files in the ‘Get Started’ Pack. Simply choose the audio that best suits your needs. Browse for the file you wish to use ‐ then set the volume at a comfortable level where you can hear it but it does not bother you. Some brainwave technologies (such as binaural beats) require the use of stereo headphones. Some of the audios supplied do embed this technology for added effect. But all use additional techniques to make them effective ‐ even without the use of stereo. This means they work perfectly even on your PC or laptop speakers. If you wish to generate you own I highly recommend the software produced by Transparent Corp.
S E M I ‐S U B L I M I N A L A UD I O L E A R N IN G Using any audio recording software, e.g., the free Audacity program from http://audacity.sourceforge.net, you will be able to record your flashing text messages as an audio file to reinforce the learning experience. It is not essential the words you use match exactly the Flashing Object Text. However the same principles should be used when creating your audio messages. It is important however to ensure your overall goal of the messages remain the same, as they reinforce each other. It is recommended to read each of the messages 3 times in a calm, clear voice. Allow approximately one second between each repetition. Don’t worry if you make mistakes, just keep recording until you have completed all of the messages. You can then easily go through and edit out any mistakes using Audacity. Once complete save your file as .mp3. Use a high quality MP3 format for the best results. The finished file can then be loaded into the second track of the programs audio section. Set the volume level so when both audios are playing you can just make out the words of your semi‐subliminal learning track, over any background noise. You should find that within a minute of using your computer you are not even aware of the audio playing. But if you consciously listen for it you can make out the words quite clearly. MDT includes an additional third track. You can use this to add some relaxing music or background nature sounds. This is completely optional. Again simply adjust all three volume levels so that the brain wave frequencies and Semi‐Subliminal Audio is at a high enough level to be heard, but low enough to be easily ignored. © www.MyDesktopTherapist.com
MUSIC Music is very powerful at changing our emotional state. If we listen to uplifting music we become uplifted. If we listen to relaxing music it can relax us. Energetic music can energize us. Obvious really, yet people often listen to the music that reflects the sate they are currently in, not the state they would like to be in. This is most obvious in teenagers who listen to angry thrash music that reflects their confused emotional state, or love songs that reflect their first experiences with being in love and breaking up. If you are stressed find some music that will relax you and use it as an overlay to a brainwave frequency that matches this calm feeling. If I am trying to work and need to focus I personally find some electronic trance music helps. It has medium paced beats with an uplifting feel. The repetitive beats help put me in an even rhythm while the pace keeps me energized. Every person is different so it is important to find music that bests suits you and your tastes. I think this is one reason why many people do not use the numerous subliminal audios and similar products that they buy… The background music is just too bad. We have added a third track in MDT for you to load an MP3 file into. Alternatively you can also just play a CD or collection of MP3 files using WinAmp or Windows Media Player at the same time as MDT is running. Just ensure the volume level is set so that you can hear the MDT audios in the background.

SESSIONS Sessions are a unique feature of MDT. They can be used to create a variety of different applications. The basic functionality allows you to put a title, block of text, audio and video or image together in a panel that displays at set intervals or scheduled times. You can create multiple ‘frames’ to make up sessions for different purposes. Here are a few examples:
EFT S E S S IO N Emotional Freedom Technique, (EFT) is a simple technique that helps remove old emotional or mental patterns. This makes it most useful in removing old programming to allow new programming to work and take better hold. The main issue facing EFT is that for the best results regular application is needed. This is especially true for chronic illness or addictions. Using MDT you can create EFT sessions that deal with the different aspects of a problem. By adding them to the MDT sessions feature you can create your very own personal desktop therapist ‐ to tell you what to do and remind you when to do it. Using the EFT template you will see the tapping points used are illustrated making it easy to use. Don’t worry, if you do not know how to do EFT a separate manual is supplied. Another option is to see a local EFT therapist who can assist you in creating a customized set of sessions for whatever issue you are trying to resolve. For more information and tips on EFT visit www.EFT‐Therapy.com, or for detailed training videos go to www.EFT‐DVDs.com.
HYPNOSIS By using the audio function you can schedule regular short hypnosis sessions throughout the day. Or one or two longer ones to help assist you, in your change process. You can record your own hypnosis sessions or purchase one or more of the many professional ones available in the resources section.
EXERCISE & FITNESS If you are trying to get fit or lose weight then regular exercises throughout the day can help. Use a still image with written instructions, or a video clip of a trainer demonstrating what to do. You can make multiple sequences of different exercises to play throughout the day ‐ perhaps every 2 hours or at scheduled times. This is like having your own personal coach reminding you, and showing you what to do on an ongoing basis. If you use a computer for long periods you can also use this feature to create eye exercises and remind yourself to take regular breaks. © www.MyDesktopTherapist.com
VISUALIZATION Regular visualization is a must if you are trying to use the law of attraction to assist in changing your current reality. You can use the MDT Sessions in two ways: 1 . The first is to create a guided visualization in audio format and have it play at regular intervals throughout the day. If you don’t want to do this you could just give yourself a text reminder to spend a few minutes visualizing your goals. But a guided audio is often more powerful for holding your focus. You may also want to use some of the brainwave frequencies that assist the mind in reaching alpha state. This is the place where visualization becomes the most powerful. To make your visualization as powerful as possible ask yourself the following questions: Where am I? What is around me? Who is around me? What colors can I see? What can I hear? What am I wearing? What is happening? What am I doing? How do I feel? Create as much detail as possible. Include other people, all your senses, action and as much emotion as possible. Ensure you make it appear and feel like it is happening now, in the present moment. 2 . The second way to use MDT is to create a vision board of images, or a video, that plays every 1 or 2 hours. These may be the same images you are using for Flashing Objects. But the sessions give you a chance to see them without transparency. And to focus on them consciously. When looking at the images ask yourself the same questions as above. It is most important to spend time feeling what it is like to already own, have or be whatever/wherever your image shows. Of course the most effective strategy would be to use both techniques. I would suggest a couple of minutes of images, followed by a 3 minute guided visualization with alpha frequencies playing throughout.
QUESTIONS Too many people ask themselves the wrong questions, so they find the ‘wrong’ answers. Instead of asking “Why do things never go right? …. Why do other people have all the luck?” ‐ reframe your questions in way that must give you a positive answer. Questions such as “What 3 things will I do today to create more fun in my life? …What 3 things do I love about myself?” are far more constructive. You can use the session’s module in MDT to create a series of questions to ask yourself on a regular basis. These questions don’t have to be answered consciously (though if you do that is great too). Instead they are new food for your subconscious mind to help change the direction of your thinking.
These subconscious ‘answers’ to your questions are perhaps the most powerful form of affirmation because they are conclusions you have come to yourself. This means you already believe them. You don’t need to force an answer. Ask a question enough times and your brain will find an answer. A practical example may be if you are trying to quit smoking. Many people ask themselves “Why is it so difficult to stop smoking?” Instead you may ask yourself “What 3 things do I enjoy most about becoming free from smoking?”
P U T T IN G IT T O G E T H E R For the optimal program you will want to use a combination of sessions that use all of the different approaches. Use your creativity to create something uniquely suited to your personal needs.
CREATING A SESSION To create a session, simply click the Sessions option in the MDT program you are making and select ‘create’. Give your session a name in the ‘Session Name’ field at the top. You can then ‘Create Group’. This allows you to create a set of tasks that act as a component to each session. You can then save these groups and use them in different sessions if you want. Don’t worry if this sounds confusing now, it will make more sense as you go along… Give your Task Group a name and then ‘Create Task’. Here you can choose the size of the session box that will display. You have 3 options ‐ small, medium and large. Choose whichever best suits your needs. (Videos will be automatically shrunk to fit the smaller boxes if needed.) Each box is color coded so you can see how it will display. The blue box is for the title. The cream area is for smaller, more detailed text. And the pink area is for either a video or picture. If an audio or video is selected the session box will automatically display for the length of the chosen media. If you choose an image you will be given the option to define the display time (default 4 seconds). Once you have added the text and multimedia to your frame, click OK. Create as many task frames as you need and then sequence them in the order you wish them to display. Once done click back and your task group will be ready. Make as many task groups as you like. The reason to have task groups is so when you have many tasks they can be managed more easily. It also enables you to create different groups that can be used multiple times, or replicated if you only want to make small changes (for example an EFT round). You can then compile your task groups to make the finished session. Make as many sessions as you like. Sequence them in the order you wish them to play. Set the time between each one and you are ready. Your program is finished. Simply go back to the Start screen and click ‘Play’. © www.MyDesktopTherapist.com
