Knowles, 2001 & 2006 Models of reflection
A dialectical process: it looks inwards at our thoughts and thought processes and outward at the situation in which we consider the interaction of the internal and external, our reflection orientates us for further thought and action. Reflection is thus ‘meta thinking’ (thinking about thinking) in which we consider the relationship between our thoughts and action in a particular context.

Critical Reflection
Critical Reflection Critical reflection involves the identification of deep seated assumptions, but with the primary purpose of bringing about some improvements in professional practice (Fook&Askeland, 2006)
Critical reflection
Critical reflection The critical reflection questioning process can often be experienced as too intrusive, too personal or too confronting, and the process is sometimes labelled as ‘bombarding’ or ‘interrogation’ because of its concreteness and directness. It appears to contravene unspoken cultures around what is regarded as polite public behaviour with regard to more personal topics.
What do we mean by culture?

Vary in type and depth More superficial assumptions might include, for example, beliefs about proper customs, where as deeper assumptions might include, for example, those about what constitutes legitimate knowledge.

Critical reflection and culture
Critical reflection and culture Some current work place cultures work against critical reflection as they become more and more procedure and regulation based. The demand from the environment is that ‘Students must be ready for, not critical of, practice’ (Preston-Shoot, 2000)
