On Riverdale, Camila Mendes stars as Veronica Lodge, the supremely privileged and polished socialite who comes to town and steals Archie’s heart. But the role is a far cry from her turn in the just-released music video for The Chainsmokers’s new single “Side Effects,” in which she plays a rebellious hotel employee who takes out her frustration on the dance floor.
The clip, which was directed by Matthew Dillon Cohen, begins with Mendes’s character, Riley, getting the awful news that she has to work over the weekend. But rather than wallow in a pool of her own misery, Riley decides to make the most of her unfortunate situation. After stripping away her floral-print maid uniform — revealing a pink silk blouse and a matching knee-length skirt — she heads straight for the hotel’s courtyard and throws herself an impromptu one-person pool party.
While dancing to The Chainsmokers’s latest disco-heavy banger, which features the syrupy vocals of their frequent collaborator Emily Warren, Riley encounters a stodgy security guard who refuses to be moved by her, well, moves. From there, we get a literal window into the various nocturnal goings-on in the hotel, which include one dude lifting weights and a raucous room party. By the end, things have descended into a full-blown rager complete with balloons, fireworks, and a late-night dip in the pool, courtesy of Riley herself. If this is what a shift at this particular hotel is normally like, check us in.

In fact, this is the second time this week that she’s appeared in a music video and put her considerable dance moves on display. She also appeared in her friend Maggie Rogers’s video for the song “Give a Little.” Camila even took to Instagram and offered a knowing wink at her new side hustle: “It would appear that dancing in other people’s music videos has become one of my favorite pastimes,” she wrote. We are so here for it.
