Exploring both the technological feasibility,  and the potential impact on civilization, of a  non­tether, kinetic energy supported, electrical  lift rail system operating between ground and  GEO

The intent here is to provide a conceptual  outline for an alternate, very positive, near  future pathway into space for civilization • Provide transportation technological basis • Use the electrodynamic interactions in  synchronous electric motor technology • Would allow construction of Satellite  Solar Power Stations finally in GEO • Allow mass­spectrometer type total  recycling in GEO; Spaceports in GEO

Conceptual complexity vs.  physical size • The common CD/DVD drive in today’s  computers and music systems has a similar  basic conceptual complexity • Both utilize data­controlled synchronous  rotary and linear electric motor principles • But the Space Carousel would have much  greater 131,300 Km perimeter

A proposed new transportation system needs to provide initial vision as to what possibilities it would allow. Since the electrical equivalent of the energy that is given to a mass by moving it from the equatorial surface up to GEO is only 15.7 KWh/Kg, an electrically powered transportation system functioning with an order of magnitude of that value, seems likely to allow applications such as: Copyright 2005 © James E. Construction of adequate Satellite Solar Power Stations in GEO to cleanly power worldwide civilization worldwide, dropping CO2 accumulation. And powering lift to GEO from solar power thereafter, regardless of fluctuations in conventional energy supplies.

Construction of large scale solar powered mass-spectrometer type total recycling plants in GEO to change toxic or entropicaly amalgamated waste materials back to useful pure forms. Shift all spaceport reaction engined vehicle launch facilities up to GEO. The electrical lift to start journeys already 91% up out of earth’s gravitational energy well, in huge spacecraft built there, make entirely new kinds of space ventures, and new adventures, possible. Building with an eye toward lifting civilization’s load on the earth surface ecosystem long term, construction of prototypes of passively shielded Stanford Torus type, 10,000 person each, comfortable space habitats in GEO. And, the Space Carousel could couple the earth’s rotational energy to keep a slightly higher orbit tensile linked full ring of habitats in GEO from collapse, room for 15 billion people. Next Steps: A new field of transportation technology is proposed to be created • Develop mathematical modeling of the overall transportation system electromechanical dynamics • R&D on the basic armature mass stream technique for synchronously transferring energy and momentum along inductive magnetic levitation tracks in a hard vacuum at Km/s velocities • A side project to use wet-launch technology to put a prototype 200-person toroidal rotating habitat in LEO • Prepare for practice with earth-encircling emplacement techniques • Explore ways to deal with current lack of acceptance by the present business system.

Given wholesome adequate means for human coping with stress of change during the development, construction and application of a carousel space elevator project with its enabled applications, this system surely could provide wholesome new direction to the vigorous drama of people in the flow of civilization to increase the survivability of all, in the race for completion and application before exhaustion of low cost, high energy supplies. 3
