Differentiation is a teacher’s response to learner needs. The recognition of students varying background knowledge and preferences. It is also the instruction that appeals to students differences Practices include effective management procedures, grouping students for instruction, and engaging learners. It is said that differentiation lowers expectations for students. However, the world provides more options than the schools. School has limited options available. Good differentiation always teaches up. Good differentiation teacher’s students to become independent. Differentiation is a means of ensuring that by the time students get to the test, they’ve learned as much as they possibly can in preparation for both the test and life. When teachers differentiation, they do so in response to students’ readiness, interest, and/or learning profile. So, students are grouped based on those three things, not just readiness. Readiness refers to the skill level and background knowledge of the child. Interest refers to topics that the student may want to explore or that will motivate the student. The students learning profile includes learning style, grouping preferences and environmental preferences.
