Preface for CADWorx P&ID Tutorials This document provides step-by-step instructions designed to get you up and running quickly with CADWorx P&ID. Tutorials are divided into two sections: Basic Tutorials and Advanced Tutorials. Each section includes individual lessons that provide hands-on practice using many of the most commonly used features in CADWorx P&ID. For the latest support information for this product, comments or suggestions about this documentation, and documentation updates for supported software versions, please visit Intergraph Smart® Support (https://smartsupport.intergraph.com). Basic Tutorial The lessons in the Basic Tutorial section guide you through using the tools and commands in CADWorx P&ID to create a drawing without a database. After you complete all of the lessons in this section, the finished drawing should resemble the example below.
Even if you intend to use the software with a database, we recommend that you complete the Basic Tutorial lessons.
When appropriate, a tutorial lesson cross-references a pertinent topic in the CADWorx P&ID User's Guide so that you can get additional information regarding a specific command or concept.

Start a new drawing When you open CADWorx P&ID, the CAD platform loads first. Also loaded are two template files in the [Product Folder]\P&ID\Support folder.

Follow the steps below to begin creating a new drawing. When you first open the software the Startup Options dialog box opens so that you can specify the environment. Select Without Database and then click OK. Follow the steps below to start a new drawing with either metric or imperial. 1. Click New
. Alternatively, type QNEW, and press ENTER.
2. Select Imperial.dwt in the Select template dialog box, and click Open. The Startup Options dialog box opens so that you can specify the environment. 3. Select Without Database, and click OK. You should start any new drawing with a template.

Setup drawing parameters Each time you begin a new drawing, you must first define drawing parameters as required for the current project. 1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Setup type SETUP, and press ENTER.

The CADWorx P&ID Setup dialog box appears. By default Annotation is set to Off. Do not change this setting while you are working the lessons in the Basic Tutorial. 2. Click Border. The Borders dialog box appears.
3. Under Border type, select Predefined. A list of predefined borders displays under Predefined borders. The list of predefined borders is controlled by the [Product Folder]\P&ID\Support\MVSetup.dfs file. 4. Select 34x22 (ANSI-D) in the Predefined borders list, and click OK. 5. Click OK on the CADWorx P&ID Setup dialog box. The Edit Attributes dialog box appears.

The Save Drawing As dialog box appears. 8. Type 10112 in the File name box, and click Save. For more information about setting up drawing parameters, see "Setup" in the CADWorx P&ID User's Guide.
Place a vertical vessel When you create a drawing, first place equipment and then draw the pipe in the direction of the flow. In this lesson, you will draw a vertical vessel, similar to the example below.
1. If the entire drawing is not visible, click the View tab, and then click Extents Extents ) on the Navigate 2D (Zoom) panel. 2. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Vessels type ICONVESSEL, and press ENTER.

The Vessels dialog box appears. 3. Select Vert Vessel Ellip w/Skirt, and click OK. First corner point. 4. Click a point in the drawing to define the lower left corner of the internal rectangle. Second corner point. 5. Click a second point in the drawing, approximately four grid spaces to the right and 12 grid spaces up from the first point, to define the upper right corner of the internal rectangle. The software draws the vertical tank with the ellipses at the top and bottom of the vessel. Pick skirt base.

Basic Tutorial 6. Click in the drawing to define the location for the base of the skirt. Pick position. 7. Click a point within the vessel to define the placement of the vessel tag. Pick position 8. Click a point above the vessel at the top of the drawing, about one grid space down from the drawing border, to define the placement of the vessel label. Place a pump In the next lesson, you will place two pumps.
1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Pumps type ICONPUMP, and press ENTER.

Basic Tutorial 3. Click a point in the drawing to the right of the bottom of the tank to place the pump.
Pick orientation. 4. Define the orientation of the pump so that the suction and discharge are facing toward the right edge of the drawing. Move the mouse from the left to the right to assign the correct orientation of the pump. When the pump is oriented correctly, click once in the drawing to exit the command. Pick position. 5. Click a point just below the pump to place the additional tag. Pick position. 6. Click a point directly above the pump and one grid space down from the drawing border to define a position for the pump label. 7. Place a copy of the pump approximately ten spaces to the right of the first pump.
Place a copy of the pump 1. Click the Home Tab and then click Copy on the Modify panel. Alternatively, type COPY, and press ENTER to place a second pump identical to the first. 2. Click the first pump you placed. Select objects. 3. Press ENTER to complete the selection set. Specify base point or [Displacement/Mode]. 4. Click a point at the base of the pump. Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>. 5. Click a second point in the drawing about 10 grid spaces to the right of the original pump, and press ENTER. The Editing Mechanical Component dialog box appears. 6. Type P-002 in the Tag box, and click Additional Data.

Basic Tutorial 7. Type REFLUX PRODUCT PUMP in the Service box, and click OK. 8. Click OK in the Editing Mechanical Component dialog box to return to the drawing.
CADWorx P&ID clears the tag value for all pumps and vessels that are copied to prevent duplicate tag values.
Equipment that you draw in CADWorx P&ID is grouped together. To move an individual component within a group, you must use the CAD platform's STRETCH command.

Place the horizontal vessel Follow the steps below to place a horizontal tank in the drawing, similar to the example below.
1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Vessels type ICONVESSEL, and press ENTER.

Place an exchanger In this lesson, you will place two exchangers: one to the left of the vertical tank, and the other above the horizontal tank.
1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Exchangers in the Equip panel. Alternatively, type ICONEXHANGE and then press ENTER. The Exchangers dialog box appears. 2. Select Exchanger - Process Flow, and click OK. Pick position. 3. Click a point in the drawing to the left of the vertical tank, just above the seam, to define the location of the first exchanger. Second position. 4. Click a point at the upper left of the exchanger to place the additional tag. Pick position.

Basic Tutorial 5. Click a point above the exchanger at the top of the drawing, about one grid space down from the drawing border, to define the placement of the exchanger label. 6. Repeat steps1 through 5 to place an identical exchanger above the left end of the horizontal vessel. Define equipment tags Although you have placed several equipment items in the drawing, none of the equipment has been assigned a tag number yet. The Edit command allows you to select any item that has data associated with it, and edit that data. The steps below demonstrate how to edit the existing equipment in your drawing. When you finish, your drawing should resemble the example below.
1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Edit type CEDIT, and press ENTER.

Select P&ID entity. 2. Select the vertical tank on the left side of the drawing. The Editing Vessel Component dialog box appears. You can also get this box to display by double clicking the P&ID entity.

4. Click Additional Data. The Additional Data dialog box appears.
5. Type Depropanizer in the Corrosion Allowance box, and click OK. 6. Click OK on the Editing Vessel Component dialog box. The equipment tag on the face of the vertical tank and the equipment label at the top of the drawing are both appended with the tag number. 7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 to edit the properties for the remaining equipment on the drawing as indicated below. Horizontal Vessel:

Draw process lines The following lesson shows you how to connect the equipment with process lines. To ensure that the process and Actual From/To information is properly recorded, draw the process lines in the direction of the flow. If the process direction changes, you can modify the process information. 1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Major Primary on the Process Lines panel. Alternatively, you can type MPRIMARY, and press ENTER. The command prompts for the process line functions are similar to the CAD platform's PLINE command. 2. Click a point at the top of vessel T-001 to indicate the start point of the line segment. 3. Draw the line up and over to the top of exchanger EX-002, clicking the point where you want each line segment to end. 4. When you reach the top of exchanger EX-002, right-click and select Enter to end the process line.

a. Draw a process line from the bottom of exchanger EX-002 to the top of vessel V-010. b. Draw a process line from the bottom of vessel V-010 to the suction side of pump P-002.

Draw a process line up from the discharge side of pump P002 over to vessel T-001. From the corner of this line, above the P-002 pump, draw a line towards the right edge of the drawing.
d. Draw the suction line to pump P-001 and then draw the discharge line.
e. Draw a line from the bottom of the ellipse on vessel T-001 to exchanger EX-001. f.
Draw the line from the top of exchanger EX-001 to the left side of vessel T-001.

Annotate the process lines After you have drawn the process lines, use Edit to annotate each process line with size, specification, and tag data. You can also enter tag information for the valves. Then, when you begin placing valves and equipment connections such as nozzles on the process lines, they automatically assume the size of the line. To help you identify which process line is being referenced in the following lesson, use the labels shown in the example below.
1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Edit type CEDIT, and press ENTER.

The information that you define is stored with the process line. In Tag the process lines (on page 39), you will place tags on these process lines.
To assign a specification to any CADWorx component, click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Spec Assign in the Size_Spec panel. For more information, see "Spec Assign" in the CADWorx P&ID User's Guide. You can also use the CADWorx P&ID Setup dialog box to set the specification to 150-lb so that all process lines drawn are assigned the specification automatically at placement.
The line number system is explained in the Advanced Tutorial section. Using a line numbering system requires that you only enter the size and specification of the process line to automatically generate the tag value.
Place a nozzle If you want the nozzles you place to acquire the size of the process line, you must first set the size of the process line. Otherwise, you must edit each connection manually. 1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Nozzles type ICONNOZZLE, and press ENTER.

12. Place another instrument bubble attached to the PC-010 instrument line, and tag it PI-010. You must pick three different points to place the bubble. The first point is the instrument line on PC-010, the second is directly across, about 1-1/2 grid spaces to the left of the first point, and the third point is directly up from second point, even with the PC-010 bubble. The drawing should resemble the example below.

Although the drawing layout used for the advanced tutorial lessons is similar to the one used in the basic tutorial lessons, the two drawings are different. Also, the advanced lessons use a slightly modified workflow for defining and modifying property data than the one used in the basic lessons.
Do not store drawings created using an external database in the same folder with drawings created without an external database.

Start a new drawing When you first open CADWorx P&ID, the CAD platform loads first. Also loaded are two template files in the [Product Folder]\P&ID\Support folder.

Follow the steps below to begin the tutorial project. When you first open the software the Startup Options dialog box opens so that you can specify the environment. Select Without Database and then click OK. Follow the steps below to start a new drawing for the advanced tutorial. Advanced tutorial must be done with a database. 1. Click New

2. In the Select template dialog box, select Imperial.dwt and then click Open. You should start any new drawing with a template. The Startup Options dialog box opens so that you can specify the environment to be used. 3. In the Startup Options dialog box, select Create under New Project and then click OK.

Setup drawing parameters Each time you begin a new drawing, you must define drawing parameters as required for the current project. 1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Setup type SETUP, and press ENTER.

Place a pump In the next lesson, you will place two pumps. 1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Pumps type ICONPUMP, and press ENTER.

Click the first pump you placed. Select objects. 3. Press ENTER to complete the selection set. Specify base point or [Displacement/Mode]. 4. Click a point at the base of the pump. Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>. 5. Click a second point in the drawing about 10 grid spaces to the right of the original pump and press ENTER. 1 row(s) added to the database. When you copy an object, CADWorx creates a row in the database automatically. 6. Double-click the new pump. The Editing Mechanical Component dialog box appears. 7. Type P-002 in the Tag box, and click Additional Data. 8. Check that REFLUX PRODUCT PUMP is in the Service box, if not type it in and click OK.

Draw process lines In this lesson, you will define global settings for specification and size, and then connect the equipment with process lines. Draw process lines in the direction of the flow to ensure that the process and Actual From/To information is properly recorded. If the process direction changes, you can modify the process information.
Set the specification and size for the process lines You can define the specification for process lines before placement. You can also set the size before placement. If you do not know the size of the process line prior to placement, you can use the CEDIT or SIZEASSIGN command to update the size. 1. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab, and then click Spec Set Alternatively, type SPECDLG, and press ENTER.

The Specification to Use dialog box appears. 2. Select Inch_CS_2013_Specs.prj (Metric_CS_2013_Specs.prj) in the list of available projects, and click Open. If you want to use a legacy specification, navigate to the folder containing the specification, select the 150 (150_M) specification, and then click Open. The Specification to Use dialog box appears. 3. Select the 150 (150_MM) specification, and then click OK. 4. Click Size Set ENTER.

When drawing process lines with CADWorx, the start and end point of the process lines should be visible in the model space. If these two points are not visible, the process information is not recorded.
The command prompts for the process line functions are similar to the CAD platform's PLINE command.

Enter tag information for process lines Now that you have drawn the process lines, use the Edit command to annotate them. The current size and specification for these lines is 14”-150. If possible, assign the process line size at this time so that valves and equipment connections, such as nozzles, are automatically sized. 1. Create new blocks and symbols While creating drawings with CADWorx P&ID, you can use the CAD platform Write Block (WBLOCK) command to create a block and then use Menu Symbols to place the new block on a the menu. To remove the link, use the EDIT command to open the Editing Line Component dialog box, and click Remove Link.
Because another link cannot be made to an item after one link is established, Make Link is not available on the dialog box. If an error is made when a link is established, click Remove Link and then click Make Link to create another link.
Add a non-database drawing to the project You can now add the drawing that you completed in the Basic Tutorial section to the project database. 1. Place a copy of the 10112.dwg drawing from the Basic Tutorial section in the project folder. 2. Open CADWorx P&ID. 3. Click File > Open, and navigate to project folder. 4. Double-click 10112.dwg. The Insert Drawing Into Project Database dialog box appears. 5. Click Insert into DB. The software inserts the drawing into the project. 6. Click Save

Default project, forms, and queries The CADWorx project database contains several forms, reports and queries that you can access. The startup form shown below is available by opening the .mdb file directly in Microsoft Access. These are example forms and are not designed to satisfy any specific project requirements. You can modify these forms, reports and queries to meet your requirements or you can create your own. Data input forms simplify data entry by showing only those fields that you are responsible for filling out. You can configure data input forms to replicate required printed data sheets for components such as instruments and equipment. Using these forms, a project administrator can restrict access to specific fields.

Create a query in Microsoft Access 1. Navigate to the [Product Folder]\Tutorial\SampleProject folder, and double-click the Projdata.mdb file. Microsoft Access launches. 2. Click the Create tab and then click Query Wizard
on the Queries panel.
The New Query dialog box appears. 3. Select Simple Query Wizard and then click OK. The Simple Query Wizard displays. 4. Select Table:Components-Instruments in the Tables/Queries box.

3. Locate the F-001 loop components, and add an A to the end of each of the tag numbers so that they are 001A. 4. Click Save

5. Navigate to the [Product Folder]\Tutorial\SampleProject folder, and double-click the 10100 drawing file. 6. Click Yes in the Synchronize dialog box. The loop data has been changed in the drawing. The new loop number appears in red, the system layer, informing you that a change has been made to the database. Click the CADWorxP&ID tab and then click Change Att Layer to place the instrument tags back on the proper layer . Alternatively, type CHANGEATTLAYER on the command line and then press ENTER.
