6
Do not! Do
not break the blister. It will increase chance of infection Do not use adhesive dressing or a tape on the skin Do not apply lotions, ointments or fats to the injury Do not remove any thing sticking to the burn Do not use cotton wool or any other fluffy material Do not apply ice directly to burn 7
Rule of Nine
8
Severity depend on DALO D=depth of the burn • A =area covered by Burn • L=Location • O=Origin or source of Burn •
9
Critical Burns • • •
2nd degree burns which are larger than the palm of the casualty All 3rd degree burns Burns on face, joint or genitals
If the area burnt is larger than 9% there is always the possibility of shock! 10
Remember!
Electrical Injuries can kill
11
High Voltage Current
12
Electrical Burns Human body is a very good conductor of electricity Some body parts like skin resist the electrical current .This resistance produces heat ,resulting in burn injuries.
13
Electrical burns Severity depends upon: the
type and amount of contact
the
current path through the body
how
long the contact lasted 14
Sign and symptoms Unconscious Shock Breathing
difficulty Weak irregular pulse Obvious burns on skin often on hands or foot Fracture Heart arrest Respiratory arrest 15

Removing danger is the priority!

Make
First Aid
the area safe, never approach until the power is turned off and stay at least 20 yards away. Follow ABC of resuscitation and be ready to resuscitate Cool the burns by flushing with water and covering with sterile dressing Treat shock and immobilize any fractures If unconscious ,put in recovery position

Hints on preventing electrical fire Always unplug the television and other electrical appliances when you're using them to make absolutely sure they are safe. Fires can be caused by faulty wires. Check that your plugs are correctly wired and sockets are not overloaded. 26
Stop, Drop and Roll!
27
Cold Contact Burns
Causes: Contact with Cryogenic liquid or cold gas Sign Symptoms: Affected part may swell and become painful Blisters may appear Affected part appear waxy and yellow General body temperature may reduce Shock
28
Move
First Aid
the causality into warm room Make the causality comfortable Remove any clothing that may restrict circulation to the frozen area Immerse the affected part in warm water Cover the part with sterile dressing and large protective bulky covering. Treatment for shock If massive exposure ,immerse the whole body in to warm water.
29
Remember! Never
use dry heat or rub the affected part . Do not give any alcoholic drinks or allow the casualty to smoke Do not use any ointments Do not rewarm rapidly
30
Prevention Handle
carefully Always wear protective gloves Wear eye goggles or face shield Try to cover all exposed skin by wearing long sleeves ,cuff less pants, safety boots and gloves.
