The First Lesson: Acts 11:19-30 Lector: People:

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

The Psalm The psalm will be read as prompted by the Lector.

Psalm 33:133:1-8,188,18-22 1Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous. *

Praise befits the upright. 2Praise the LORD with the lyre; *

make melody to him with the harp of ten strings. 3Sing to him a new song; *

play skilfully on the strings, with loud shouts. 4For the word of the LORD is

upright, * and all his work is done in faithfulness. 5He loves righteousness and justice; * the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, *

and all their host by the breath of his mouth. 7He gathered the waters of the sea as in a bottle; *

he put the deeps in storehouses. 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; *

let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 18Truly the eye of the LORD is

on those who fear him, * on those who hope in his steadfast love, 19to deliver their soul from death, * and to keep them alive in famine. 20Our soul waits for the LORD; *

he is our help and shield. 21Our heart is glad in him, *

because we trust in his holy name. 22Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, *

even as we hope in you.

The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Leader and People pray responsively.

Father, we pray for your holy catholic Church; That we all may be one. Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; That your Name may be glorified by all people. We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments. We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth. Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight. Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress. Give to the departed eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom. Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. Silence

11

The Confession of Sin And now, O Father, we pray to you also for our greatest need, the forgiveness of our sins: Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Priest:

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Peace Celebrant: May the peace of the Lord be always with you. People: And also with you.

The Communion Hymns Please be seated and sing.

How Deep The Father’s Love How deep the Father's love for us How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory Behold the man upon a cross My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything No gifts no power no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom

17

The PostPost-Communion Prayer Please stand and say together.

Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen
