Configuration – General Notes • The M3 configuration tools were developed to enable customers to maintain the system. Issues to take note of: • The tools are only available to Customer Administrators • The tools feature a broad number of settings given the scope of what M3 must deliver – if in doubt about the consequences of a particular setting do not change it but instead accept the default values!

Segments • Segments are usually departments or regions of an organisation (e.g. Segment 1.0 Australia, Segment 1.1 New South Wales, etc.) • Users are assigned to a single segment and ‘inherit’ all its sub-segments (in respect to being able to view segment data) • Segments can be organised in a ‘tree’ structure using the M3 Segment Wizard • The segment structure can be modified at anytime, however, historical data for a segment is not changed

What menu options are available to users that are assigned to the respective group

• A User Group does not govern: –

Whether the user is in fact entitled to use any performance and/or event management functions – this is instead controlled in the individual user profile (under ‘Access Performance Management’ and ‘Access Event Management’) What measures (and therefore data) are available or are input by users – this is instead controlled in the segments, measures and data source configuration tools

Measures • A measure is a quantifiable result to measure, monitor and report on performance • Measures are usually part of a measures hierarchy: – Strategic measures (KPIs) for general management – Tactical measures (KPIs / Metrics) for operational management – Operational (Metrics) for work groups and individuals

• A measure must be periodically gauged • To quantify a measure, business performance data must be collected from various sources

Copyright by Reneker-Saas Pty Ltd (2002 – 2007) | All Rights Reserved

Page

Measures – Data • Measures data can be collected in two ways: – Automatic via the M3 XML tool if the data is available in a 3rd Party System(s) – Manual via the M3 online data entry

• Measures may only apply to specific segments

Copyright by Reneker-Saas Pty Ltd (2002 – 2007) | All Rights Reserved

Page

Measures – Impor tant • Important Notes: – Measures can be very simple (single numbers entered once per period for each segment) or very complex (multiple numbers entered daily that must be dynamically calculated based on a broad array of settings and conditions) – The measures configuration tool supports most customer needs, from simple to very complex, and can therefore be overwhelming without some practical hands-on training

Copyright by Reneker-Saas Pty Ltd (2002 – 2007) | All Rights Reserved

Measures - Hierarchies • Measures are often interdependent (to organise them in a measures hierarchy). This is governed by formulas: Measure Formula

Measures – Impor tant • Important Notes: – When creating or editing a measure, users should ensure that Data Collection Sources and target thresholds have been specified and the ‘Propagate to Segments’ option has been taken into account – Remember, if targets and thresholds are to be set independently for specific segments, the ‘Propagate to Segments’ option should be unchecked. Then, individual segments may be selected in the following screen and individual thresholds and targets may be assigned accordingly
