BLOOD LAB NEEDS Introduction: The Blood Lab needs can be thought of as consisting of two layers. An Inventory Layer and a Research Layer. Inventory Layer: This is the standard component and can be found in most tracking systems. The focus of this layer is to store and track items, their usage and maintain data integrity. Needs: 1. Storage of items and storage units (barcoded items and barcoded storage units). 2. Tracking of items and storage units (history- lineage, checkins, checkouts). 3. Tracking of items and storage unit usage (quantity, percent). 4. Integrity checking of items and storage units (conflict avoidance with other items/storage units). 5. Individual and bulk insertion/deletion of items and storage units. 6. Individual and bulk moving of items and storage units. 7. Individual and bulk suspension/hold of items and storage units usage. 8. Individual editing of items and storage units. 9. Creation and Printing of labels/barcodes for items and storage units. 10. Creation and Printing of Lists of items and storage units. 11. Searching of items and storage units. 12. Browsing of items and storage units. The focus of this layer is to retrieve and ship the stored items in specific ways as defined by Investigators. Research Layer's success is predicated on having a robust Inventory Layer. Needs: 13. Retrieve items from storage units per Project. (given a set of parameters/rules). 14. Sort items and derivatives into storage/shipping units per Project. (given a set of parameters/rules). 15. Storage of Project (history of items utilized, quantity utilized, storage units utilized). 16. Tracking of Project (through entire process - pull, sort). 17. Changes in Project (a change in the set of parameters and rules after submission but before completion of fulfillment). 18. Integrity checking of Project (conflict avoidance with other Projects).
