ANALYSIS FROM QUESTIONNAIRE FACILITY: Questionnaire survey was conducted for the sample of pedestrians. Questionnaires were distributed to the pedestrians who crossed the crosswalks. Instructions and explanations of LOS were given in order to clear what was expected from them. It was emphasized to respondents that this study needs their perception of the level of difficulty if they were to use the particular crosswalk. Respondents were requested to record their perception on a scale how comfortable they felt as they crossed that crosswalk. To simplify the matter of providing an assessment, the scale was made ranging from 0 to 4. Score 4 means very comfortable to cross and score 0 means extremely difficult to cross. Pedestrians expressed their ratings of how well a particular intersection accommodates their travel by referring to the intersection’s perceived comfort and travel time. Surface quality and Path environment are assessed from the visual inspection. Facility Comfort Travel time

BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS AND CROSSING CHARACTERISTICS: Location (or) Site: 1 (Besant Road- Unsignalized Intersection): The results from the respondents indicate that about 75% were males and 25% were females. Almost all the pedestrians decided to cross the road whenever they feel they can cross with little interference with automobile traffic. 65% of pedestrians decided to cross the road diagonally rather than at midblock. 80% of pedestrians are willing to cross the road without paying attention to traffic and crosses the road while talking on cell phone (or) listening to music on head phones. Majority of the pedestrians crosses the road other than zebra crossing. 60% of pedestrians crosses the road even though there are obstacles. Presence of mid-block crosswalk and presence of other pedestrians that attempts to cross influence the pedestrians decision to cross the road. Location (or) Site: 2 (Ramesh Hospital Road- Unsignalized Intersection): The results from the respondents indicate that about 85% were males and 15% were females. Almost all the pedestrians decided to cross the road whenever they feel they can cross with little

interference with automobile traffic. 82% of pedestrians decided to cross the road diagonally rather than at midblock. 80% of pedestrians are willing to cross the road without paying attention to traffic and crosses the road while talking on cell phone (or) listening to music on head phones. Majority of the pedestrians crosses the road other than zebra crossing. 45% of pedestrians crosses the road even though there are obstacles. Presence of mid-block crosswalk and presence of other pedestrians that attempts to cross influence the pedestrians decision to cross the road. Location (or) Site: 3 (Near Police Control Room- Signalized Intersection): The results from the respondents indicate that about 90% were males and 10% were females. Almost all the pedestrians decided to cross the road whenever they feel they can cross with little interference with automobile traffic. 100% of pedestrians decided to cross the road diagonally rather than at midblock. 55% of pedestrians are willing to cross the road without paying attention to traffic and crosses the road while talking on cell phone (or) listening to music on head phones. Majority of the pedestrians crosses the road other than zebra crossing. 62% of pedestrians crosses the road even though there are obstacles. Presence of mid-block crosswalk and presence of other pedestrians that attempts to cross influence the pedestrians decision to cross the road. Location (or) Site: 4 (PWD Grounds- Signalized Intersection): The results from the respondents indicate that about 90% were males and 10% were females. Almost all the pedestrians decided to cross the road whenever they feel they can cross with little interference with automobile traffic. 100% of pedestrians decided to cross the road diagonally rather than at midblock. 30% of pedestrians are willing to cross the road without paying attention to traffic and crosses the road while talking on cell phone (or) listening to music on head phones. Majority of the pedestrians crosses the road other than zebra crossing. 42% of pedestrians crosses the road even though there are obstacles. Presence of mid-block crosswalk and presence of other pedestrians that attempts to cross influence the pedestrians decision to cross the road. Location (or) Site: 5 (Loyola College Road- Unsignalized Intersection): The results from the respondents indicate that about 10% were males and 90% were females. Majority of the pedestrians crosses the road other than zebra crossing. 54% of pedestrians crosses the road even though there are obstacles. Presence of mid-block crosswalk and presence of other pedestrians that attempts to cross influence the pedestrians decision to cross the road. Location (or) Site: 6 (Vijaya talkies Road- Signalized Intersection):

The results from the respondents indicate that about 85% were males and 15% were females. Almost all the pedestrians decided to cross the road whenever they feel they can cross with little interference with automobile traffic. 75% of pedestrians decided to cross the road diagonally rather than at midblock. 34% of pedestrians are willing to cross the road without paying attention to traffic and crosses the road while talking on cell phone (or) listening to music on head phones. Majority of the pedestrians crosses the road other than zebra crossing. 45% of pedestrians crosses the road even though there are obstacles. Presence of mid-block crosswalk and presence of other pedestrians that attempts to cross influence the pedestrians decision to cross the road. Analysis from Visual Inspection: From visual inspection, the first finding is males crosses the road fastly when compared to females. The second finding is dependent on age factor i.e., younger and middle aged group pedestrians crosses the road more quickly than old aged pedestrians. SAFETY ANALYSIS: Location (or) Site: 1 (Besant Road- Unsignalized Intersection): Majority of pedestrians found this road as a safe corridor for pedestrians. 85% of pedestrians need better intersection and more separation from vehicular traffic. None of the pedestrians need refuge islands. 15% of pedestrians need sidewalks at this road. 55% of pedestrians suggest foot over bridge at this road for safe movement of pedestrians. Location (or) Site: 2 (Ramesh Hospital Road- Unsignalized Intersection): The findings are 10% of pedestrians want refuge islands at this intersection and 25% of pedestrians need sidewalks. 65% of pedestrians need better intersection and more separation from vehicular traffic. Location (or) Site: 3 (Near Police Control Room- Signalized Intersection): The findings are 5% of pedestrians want refuge islands at this intersection and 30% of pedestrians need sidewalks. 65% of pedestrians need better intersection and more separation from vehicular traffic. Location (or) Site: 4 (PWD Grounds- Signalized Intersection): The findings are none of the pedestrians want refuge islands at this intersection and 25% of pedestrians need sidewalks. 75% of pedestrians need better intersection and more separation from vehicular traffic. Location (or) Site: 5 (Loyola College Road- Unsignalized Intersection):

The findings are none of the pedestrians want refuge islands at this intersection and 20% of pedestrians need sidewalks. 80% of pedestrians need better intersection and more separation from vehicular traffic.

Location (or) Site: 6 (Vijaya talkies Road- Signalized Intersection): The findings are none of the pedestrians want refuge islands at this intersection and 30% of pedestrians need sidewalks. 70% of pedestrians need better intersection and more separation from vehicular traffic.
