Use of AutoCorrect An inbuilt feature within Microsoft® Word is the use of the AutoCorrect function. This function enables users to programme Microsoft®Word to automatically change words that are often spelt incorrectly. Microsoft® Word has a number of inbuilt auto corrections, for example the word 'recieved' will be auto corrected to 'received'. This function can also be used to 'shorten' the input of words and phrases. o From the Insert Menu select the AutoText option (Insert > AutoText > AutoText). o At the top of the dialogue box select the ‘AutoCorrect’ tab (see figure 1). o In the 'Replace' box type the incorrectly spelt word or shortened phrase and in the 'With' box type the correct word or elongated phrase. When completed click the 'Add' button. o When all corrections and phrases have been added close the dialogue box. o In a document type the shortened phrase and hit the Space Bar. The shortened phrase will automatically be replaced by the correct one. i.e. 'PII' could be replaced by 'Phillip II of Spain'. Figure 1 – AutoCorrect Dialogue Box
