Showstoppers is an honors show choir ensemble . Students are highly selected throu gh auditions and must have been in previous choirs at Churchill. This ensemble provides a musical challenge to students with greater than average talent and interests. Repertoire will include, but not limited to, jazz and popular styles. Sacred and secul ar choral works will be rehearsed and performed in the class to emphasize proper singing techniques. Students learn to integrate good vocal technique with dance/movement. These groups have a very active performing schedule and offer leadership opportunit ies for conductors, choreographers, etc. Students can earn MCPS Student Service Learning hours if applicable. Two consecutive semesters required for eligibility for this class .
Students and parents are encouraged to read and understand the contents of this handbook and should be used as reference throughout the school year. This information is also used as the syllabus for the 2008-2009 school year. After reading this information student and parents must completely fill out the agreement form, medical form and return to Mr. Barillo no later than September 12, 2007. Failure to submit the signed contract and medical forms will result in the student’s ineligibility to participate in any activity.Because of the importance of this I am making it mandatory and it will used as the child’s first quiz grade. Each day will result in one less letter grade.
6745 Choir, Show A 0.5 credit per semester Students sing a variety of music in jazz and popular vocal styles. Emphasis is on learning to integrate good vocal technique with dance/movement and improvisation. They acquire critical listening skills to use in evaluating their own and others' performances. This ensemble has a very active performing schedule, and offers leadership opportunities for student soloists, conductors, and choreographers. A number of performances are given at school and within the community. Prerequisite: Audition Grade Level: 9- 10- 11- 12 No repeats for credit

6743 Choir, Chamber A, Honors 0.5 credit per semester Students sing a variety of music written for small vocal ensembles, often without accompaniment. Chamber Choir allows select s ingers to refine their vocal skills in the highly demanding small ensemble setting. The ensemble has a very active performing schedule and offers leadership opportunities for student conductors and soloists. A number of performances are given at school and within the community. Grade Level: 9- 10- 11- 12 May be repeated 2 times
