Dimensioning Access Network 2

To connect 10,000 people in Chittagong Hill tracks area  

(Challenge: Limited to 4 slides only) Πr2 = Area, GSM coverage is in specific terrain, lots of vegetation

Resources Need to use 24 carrier frequencies (7.5 Mhz, 900 Mhz)  2% Blocking probability  Medium density (Rural, not using dense urban profile) 

4/12 Cluster = 2 Carrier frequencies per cell.  S2/2/2 Profile. 

Dimensioning average call duration 3

  

E = λh Erlang  1 Hour = 1 E A = QT/60 A

is the Erlang, Q = No of calls  T = Average call duration  Q = 1, T = 1.5 minutes (90 Seconds)  Here A = 1 X 90/60 X 60 = 25 mE.

Requirement of Traffic calculation 4

  

No of Carrier Frequencies/Cell = 24/12 = 2 RF/Cell No of Channels = 2 X 8 = 16 Channels (TS)/Cell No of TCH/Cell = 16 – 2 = 14 TCH  From

Erlang B table

Requirement of BTS 5

  

From Erlang B table, Traffic/Cell = 8.20 E No of users/Cell = 8.20E/25mE = 328  330 No of Cells required in Hill tracks = 10,000/330 Cells required = 30.30  Each BTS has 3 sectors/cells  30/2 = 10 BTS 

Total BTS required in Chittagong Hill Tracks is 10.
