hatsa matta for you people? I didn’t realize that you were all so well paid you couldn’t use an extra fifty bucks. What am I talking about? The last newsletter contest. The response was really pitiful. And don’t say you don’t have enough time! You have exactly the same number of hours in your day that were given to Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein and Mother Teresa. We thought it was a good idea to do a contest where Brewster employees could be included. They are left out when we do warehouse contests. But, we only received three entries from Brewster! I couldn’t believe that you guys didn’t take the time to do something that: a. was a really easy way to win $50 b. had a lot better odds than they give you at OTB c. basically provided you with the answers d. could have even been passed on to your wife, husband, kids, etc. to do for you if you were really that lazy Anyway, for those of you that did enter, here are the results: Norwood............. Brooklyn.............. Philadelphia......... Brewster.............

Congratulations to all of you and make sure you wave your winnings in front of all your co-workers that didn’t bother to enter. So now we’re back to a group effort. Let’s see which warehouse can sell the most Work-Right Gloves. Sorry, Brewster, you’ll have to watch from the bench this time around.

Meetthe Buyers
Buyers play a very important role in Right-Way’s day-to-day operations. They select and order merchandise to be sold. The skill with which they do this directly affects Right-Way’s sales volume. It takes a knowledgeable Buyer to be able to maintain a balanced inventory and stay within a designated budget. Although Right-Way’s computer system helps maintain inventory records and analyze customer purchases, our Buyers still have to make key decisions as to what, how much and when our customers will want or need a certain product.
Jeff Baudouine, Right-Way's Director of Purchasing, has been with us for 20 years.
Jeff Baudouine
He supervises the 3person purchasing staff in Brewster. His responsibilities include buying from about 30 different vendors. Jeff, much like Donald Trump, loves the 'art of the deal'. He enjoys the challenge of negotiating a good deal with vendors. “My position is diverse,” says Jeff, “It requires involvement at all levels of the business. Working for a familyowned business in an office with a nice group of people is a plus.” “I’m looking forward to [working with the] more efficient purchasing software from System 2000.” Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife Sheri and six-year-old son Timmy. Being a homeowner, he almost always has a home improvement job going on. When free to relax, Jeff finds time to watch sports or read the bible.
Charlie Aquilina will celebrate 14 years this May as a buyer for RightWay. Charlie’s lines include hand and power tools, seasonal items such as ice melt and shovels and various sundries. He spends many hours pondering the weather. Will it be a nice spring so consumers will be out in their gardens needing new shovels and hoses? Will it snow so much this winter that there won’t be enough ice melt and snow shovels to go around? This

is what keeps Charlie up at night, this…and his love of singing karaoke. Charlie is on a never-ending quest to find the perfect karaoke song, one that will propel him to new heights of fame among the Westchester County, New York Karaoke Singers and bring him many new adoring fans (preferably single females between the ages of 35 and 50 with a steady income and no living relatives).

Being able to collect Social Security before Ron. 3. Small company atmosphere. 4. Daily owner involvement. 5. Interaction with both vendors and Right-Way salespeople. Terry’s greatest job challenge is maintaining proper inventory by vendor in each warehouse.
dealers to compete with the ‘big boxes’. That’s my favorite part of the job,” says Marcus. “The most challenging aspect of my job is product knowledge,” he says, “To understand the purpose of each item that we carry, how it differs from similar products out in the market and understanding the advantages of the product to the end user.” Marcus and his wife Jessica have a 2 ½ year-old daughter, Natalya Lynn. “To tell you the truth,” laughs Marcus, “Much of my time has been consumed by taking care of my daughter.” Marcus enjoys watching PBR (Professional Bull Riding) competitions. “It’s a real man’s sport,” he kids. “It’s a lot harder than hitting a ball with a stick and running around some bases.” “Capture

Free Money! by John Pica, Assistant Controller
S
o you filed your taxes like a good citizen and Uncle Sam sent you a nice big refund check. Great, isn’t it? No!!! It isn’t!!! You have given the government an interest free loan for the better part of a year. That is your money. If the money was in your paycheck each pay period you could have used it to pay bills, increase your savings, or better yet, increase your 401K contributions; or you could join the 401K plan if you haven’t already. All of these options are to your benefit. Why give the government free money—your money? How can I figure out what exemptions I need to claim in order to have the use of this money each pay period? I am glad you asked. You can go to a website online where you can calculate your paycheck using different assumptions on exemptions claimed, 401K contributions etc. Just go to www.paycheckcity.com and click on “Personal Calculators”. You can plug in your gross pay, federal and state exemptions and any other deductions and it will calculate your paycheck. I have used the site myself to change my exemptions and 401K contributions and it is accurate within pennies.
REQUIRED READING!!! Every two weeks we all receive a paycheck. What is attached to that check (or direct deposit voucher) is a very important document. It is your pay stub. There is a wealth of information on this piece of paper and I get the feeling that many people are not bothering to give it even a cursory look. The information includes your name and address, the last four digits of your social security number, marital status, tax exemptions and allowances you are claiming, and your gross pay, deductions and net pay for both the current pay period and year to date. Also, under Important Notes, will be a message about any changes you have made that became effective in the current pay period. If you have

direct deposit (which I recommend to everyone), the bottom of the stub will show the bank account numbers, bank transit numbers and the amounts deposited to each of your designated accounts. Please check your pay stub every two weeks. It only takes a minute or two. If you think there is an error in your hours or amount of pay, bring it to your manager’s attention immediately. If you believe there is an error in your personal information, contact the employee service center at 1-800554-1802.
PERKS!!! Don’t forget that there are many different discounts and programs that you may be able to take advantage of through ADPTotalSource. Just go to www.adptotalsource.com, log in and click on “Perks”. You can also allow two family members in as guests to take advantage of the perks. Go to the website for details.

Sadly, Mark King and Georgia Kroh of our Brooklyn location lost their sister Julianna this January. Julianna passed suddenly at the age of 40. In tribute to their sister, who often wrote poetry, Mark and Georgia asked us to publish a poem Julianna wrote. “It’s stunning because this was the last poem she wrote before she died,” said Mark.

ebruary 17th was a big day at the Norwood Warehouse. An “Over The Hill” party was held for three employees who hit the big "5–0", General Manager Steve Arcouette, Office Manager Dennis Levesque and Sue Farrell all took the leap to the 2nd half of the century mark together. Delicious catered food, an “Older than Dirt” cake and the attendance of Rich and Ron made for a day of fun Ron (center) with birthday boys Dennis (left) and Steve (right).

Dog Day Afternoon
nd you think you’ve had a bad day…Norwood salesman Jim Weimann had a day on Friday, April 7th that was the stuff nightmares are made of. Jim started his day off the way any traveling salesman dreads—with a speeding ticket. Then after calling on a customer, he emerged from the store to find a parking ticket on his windshield. Two tickets in one day? Sounds unbelievable but wait… it gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). Needing gas, Jim pulled into a self-serve station to fill up. When he got out of the car, a dog that was at the station bit him in the crotch. You just cannot make this stuff up! Jim had finally had enough and got into his car to head home. On the way, he was rear-ended by an 80 year-old lady. The cop took pity on her and let her go with a warning.
After two tickets and damage to both his body and his car’s, Jim was unusually speechless. Guess he was just glad the next day was Saturday! Oh, by the way, if anybody doubts this story, Jim will be happy to provide substantiation. He’ll send you copies of the tickets and a photo of the damage to his car. So you say you want proof of the dog bite? Jim says you’ll have to take his word on that one! Right-Way Dealer Warehouse Ink•
