District: AMRITSAR 1. About District: Amritsar, literally a Pool of Nectar, derives its name from Amrit Sarovar, the holy tank that surrounds the fabulous Golden Temple. Golden Temple also known as Sri Darbar Sahib or Sri Harmandir Sahib is named after Hari (God) the temple of God. The Sikhs all over the world, daily wish to pay visit to Sri Amritsar and to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in their Ardas. The city is situated in northern Punjab state of northwestern India lies about 25 km east of the border with Pakistan. Amritsar is an important city in Punjab and is a major commercial, cultural, and transportation centre. The ‘Rajasansi International Airport’, about 11 km. from town, is connected by domestic flights to Delhi, Srinagar and Chandigarh. International flights to U.K, Singapore,Canada & Sharjah etc . Amongst other sights is Jallianwala Bagh, site of the gruesome massacre of unarmed Indians by British troops. A major tourist attraction these days is the Indo-Pakistan border crossing at Wagah, just a short distance from Amritsar, with its elaborate change-ofguards drill with a lot of strutting and intimidator showing off by both sides. 2. Projects Details: NIC District computer centre has successfully implemented various projects for State & Centre Govt Offices: " SUWIDHA (Single User-friendly WIndow Disposal and Help Line for Applicants): This project is successfully running in the DC office’s SUWIDHA centre .Four counters setup initially for New Arms Licences, New Passport Applications Collection, Countersigning of NRI’s documents & Complaints. Status of SUWIDHA Applications is available at http://amritsar.nic.in and http://suwidha.nic.in websites. " PRISM (Property Registration Information System Module): Seven Tehsils & Ten Subtehsils had been fully computerized for registration of various deeds like sale, mortgage & will etc. " District Treasuries Computerization: Payment (Token Generation, Bill detail entry, Bill Passing, Objections & Check printing), Receipt (online incorporation of receipt data from treasury Banks & Account preparation) & Pension module are fully functional .Date is daily transmitted to T & A Chandigarh. " Video Conferencing: Video conference in Amritsar is functional from 26/2/2002. Time to time VC sessions are conducted between District Officers & Punjab Civil Secretariats. " Website of Amritsar District: Amritsar district is online through URL http://amritsar.nic.in website. It contains information about district like History, important contact number, tourist places, important towns etc.

" DACNET Project: Under this project LAN was setup at Regional Plant Quarantine Station, Rajasansi, Amritsar. Quarantine software implemented for a) Registration of application (receipt & dispatch) b) Issuance of PSC (Phytosanitary Certificate) c) Import permit, d) Import release order & generation / transmission of various reports. All the data is updated on http://dacnet.nic.in on weekly basis. VSAT is being used for internet connectivity. One more VSAT has been installed at Directorate of Marketing & Inspection for internet connectivity. " DGFT Office: Technical support is provided for LAN, Intranet setup, updation of software like changes in foreign trade policy, currency rates. Online filing of applications by import/export parties is also supported. " VDIS: Feeding of village directory data of all the sixteen blocks on yearly basis. Generating & printing of various reports. " 7th All India Education Survey: Support Provided to District Education office employees for the computerization of Urban /Rural School Lists for the 7th AISES Survey. " DSSO office: Various pension schemes like Old age pension, Financial Assistance to Dependent Children, Financial Assistance to Widows & Destitute, Financial Assistance to Disabled Person. " Payroll Package & GPF Package: Implemented the software for printing of monthly pay slips as well as for printing of GPF Schedules of DC’s office employees and other offices at District level. " Elections: The General Elections, Assembly Elections and Lok sabha elections in Punjab saw the Amritsar District Centre working round the clock to provide all necessary informatics support to the District Administration. " District & Session Court Computerization: Implemented DCIS, Payroll & Budget software. " Community Needs Assessment Approach (CNAA Project): Implemented the CNAA Project at CMO office for sending monthly data to the State HQ and Dial up connectivity provided through RAS to the department. " AGMARKNET: All the APMCs of Amritsar districts have been computerized and data is being sent. " CSMS: Data entry & generation of various reports using Cooperative Societies Monitoring Systems. 3. Services Details: Services like System Study, Software Testing, Training, Implementation Support, Networking, Internet, Conducting VC Sessions & Data transmission are being provided to various users in Amritsar District. 4.
