ABSTRACT Rapid increase in pollution of air is a major concern for the past two decades. Vehicle emissions, dust, wild fires and power plants are the major causes of air pollution stated by Pollution Control of India. The unstated major cause is open burning of waste at dump yard. Due to improper management of solid waste, the quality of people life and environment got affected in that region and vicinity of the region. This paper aims in bringing out the extent of air contamination at the selected study area Chettichavadi, Salem. This site now serves as a landfill site for Salem Corporation which is creating nuisance to the public. Continuous air quality monitoring is done throughout the day for a month to assess the air quality. Based on the air quality tests, control measures have to be made immediately so that further increase in severe health and environmental issues can be controlled.
