BR IDGE S & S T RUC T UR E S BRIDGE DESIGN AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS, 8TH EDITION The AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications are intended for use in the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of bridges. The specifications employ the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology, using factors developed from current statistical knowledge of loads and structural performance. This 8th edition includes revisions to almost all sections of the specifications. It supersedes the 2014 7th edition and its 2015 and 2016 interim revisions. 2017. 1,780 pp.

LRFD GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR ACCELERATED BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION, 1ST EDITION Many state DOTs and the Federal Highway Administration are actively promoting accelerated bridge construction (ABC) to reduce traffic impacts, onsite construction time, environmental impacts, and life cycle costs; and to improve work zone safety, site constructability, material quality, and product durability, while replacing the nation’s transportation infrastructure. With ABC, prefabricated elements reduce or eliminate the onsite construction time that is needed to build a similar structural component using conventional construction methods. These guide specifications compile the growing body of recommended design and construction specifications for prefabricated bridge elements and systems for ABC with a focus on constructability and durability. 2018. 225 pp.

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR BRIDGES CARRYING LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT LOADS, 1ST EDITION These guide specifications are an introductory supplement to the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications that addresses the design of bridges subjected to light rail transit (LRT) loadings, or both LRT and conventional highway traffic loadings. This document is largely dedicated to LRT load cases and load effects, and analysis of bridges subjected to LRT loadings. Topics outside of the design of these bridges are not addressed in these guide specifications. The commentary is intended to provide a general overview of the studies and research data reviewed in formulating the provisions of the LRT Guide Specifications. However, technical discussions are provided as required. 2018. 32 pp.

Utilizing the LRFD bridge design standards, these specifications address the design of movable highway bridges, including bascule span, swing span, and vertical lift bridges. They include information on the design of bridge spans, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and bridge protection systems. They also cover seismic analysis and vessel impact analysis. 2007. 336 pp.

 Coastal Storms GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR BRIDGES VULNERABLE TO COASTAL STORMS,1ST EDITION This document contains comprehensive specifications for the design of bridges vulnerable to coastal storms. The methods for calculating wave forces on superstructures are based, primarily, on numerical simulation of the state of pressure, velocity, and acceleration within the water as a wave passes under or over bridge cross sections. Coefficients needed for the numerical simulation process, known as the Physics Based Method (PBM), were developed through physical wave tank tests. Bridge failures due to storm surge and wave loading in Gulf Coast states in recent years provided limited field data that was used to further verify these methods. Also included are current-induced forces guidelines that were the results of recent research conducted at the TurnerFairbank Highway Research Center. 2008. 63 pp.

BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS, 4TH EDITION These specifications are intended for use in the construction of bridges. They employ the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) methodology, and are designed to be used in conjunction with the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. The specifications have been updated from the 2010 3rd edition to include a complete revision of Section 3, Temporary Works, as well as changes to Section 10, Prestressing; Section 11, Steel Structures; Section 19, Bridge Deck Joint Seals; and Section 27, Concrete Culverts. The new 4th edition supersedes the 2010 3rd edition and its subsequent interim revisions. 2017. 564 pp.

These guide specifications establish minimum requirements for wind loads on bridges during construction before a deck is placed. The wind loads determined using these specifications are to be used for checking bridge girders, temporary and permanent bracing, and the permanent substructure during the erection of the girders and up to the time of placement of the deck. All other aspects of the design are to be performed in accordance to the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications or as specified as appropriate by the bridge owner. 2017. 26 pp.

BR IDGE S & S T RUC T UR E S 2019 INTERIM REVISIONS TO THE MANUAL FOR BRIDGE EVALUATION, 3RD EDITION

BRIDGE EVALUATION, INSPECTION, AND MAINTENANCE

These 2019 interim revisions contain updated information to the Manual for Bridge Evaluation, 3rd Edition. It is necessary to have these interim revisions to have all current specification information. 2018. 25 pp.

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR INTERNAL REDUNDANCY OF MECHANICALLYFASTENED BUILT-UP STEEL MEMBERS, 1ST EDITION These Guide Specifications are intended to provide an analytical framework to evaluate the internal redundancy of typical steel bridge members, and designate primary steel members as Fracture Critical Members (FCMs) or Internally Redundant Members (IRMs). They describe a procedure for evaluating the internal redundancy of the built-up tension members of the tension components of flexural members and axially loaded tension members. The Guide Specifications are based on research Transportation Pooled Fund Project TPF5(253) “Evaluation of Member Level Redundancy in Built-Up Steel Members,” which addresses the important issues related to performing a “credible” analysis to identify built-up members that have adequate internal redundancy to resist complete failure of the cross section should one component suddenly fail. The Guide Specifications also include a methodology to establish the interval for inspections specifically intended to identify whether any of the tension components have failed. This inspection is referred to as a special inspection for IRMs and must be of sufficient depth to reliably detect a severed component. This is a major departure from the current calendar-based approach to setting inspection intervals. 2018. 699 pp.

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR

Analysis and Identification of Fracture Critical Members and System Redundant Members

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR ANALYSIS AND IDENTIFICATION OF FRACTURE CRITICAL MEMBERS AND SYSTEM REDUNDANT MEMBERS, 1ST EDITION

Fracture critical members (FCMs) are defined in the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications as steel primary members, or portions thereof, subject to tension whose failure would probably cause a portion of or the entire bridge to collapse. The decision to designate members as FCMs has often been made without considering actual system redundancy or performance of the structure. Prior to the development of these guide specifications, no standards existed on how to best perform a system analysis to determine performance and response in the event an FCM is assumed to have failed. These assessment procedures apply to typical steel bridges, including simple span and continuous I-girder and tub girder bridges, throughgirder bridges, truss bridges, and tied arch bridges. 2018. 58 pp. GSFCM-1-UL ISBN: 978-1-56051-722-1

C ON S T RUC T ION & R IGH T-OF-WAY AASHTO PARTNERING HANDBOOK, 2ND EDITION This handbook was developed to educate key customers and partners on the benefits and A A S H TO methods of adopting partnering principles, in PARTNERING HANDBOOK both new and existing partnering programs. The 2018 handbook’s first edition, published in 2005, was written against a context of traditional design– bid–build project delivery, where highway projects were awarded to the lowest bidder. Since that time, the advent of alternative contracting methods, like design–build, construction manager/general contractor, and public–private partnerships, has fundamentally changed the way projects are being delivered and have resulted in increased integration and collaboration between state departments of transportation and their partners in the design and construction industries. The goal of this handbook is to encourage agencies to create a project delivery environment that integrates partnering principles into routine business practices. 2018. 154 pp.
