A Question to Consider Why don't all Christians agree with or even know the doctrines of grace when the same Holy Spirit is illuminating the Scriptures to us? 1. Like little children we are to grow in grace and in knowledge of our Lord and Saviour. 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. The Lord has always been pleased to engage His people in progressive revelation as per the symbols of the OT. It would be no fun if our children were born "full grown" and I guess the Lord wants His children to go through a "growing" process as well. Just remember, "We are saved in Phariseeism, Sanctified in Arminianism, and GLORIFIED in Calvinism!” 2. There is the natural corruptions of the heart to deal with. Even after salvation we are not entirely sanctified and this comes out in religion. Much erroneous teaching is rooted in pride as per 1 Tim 1:7. Paul speaks of individuals "Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm." 3. Then there is Satan who is ever trying to deceive the elect if possible and if not to confuse them. 2 Cor 11:14-15 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 4. I would say that the Lord allows the over emphasis of some doctrines to preserve them and beyond that to challenge the minds of His people to become shaper and clearer on particular doctrines. Prov 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. 5. There is a natural laziness on the part of people to examine the Scriptures which is why the saints need to be exhorted to study. 2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 6. Not everyone WANTS to know the doctrines of grace. John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 7. The Holy Spirit can be sinned against -- and that too will stop spiritual growth and disrupt Spiritual understanding. The Holy Spirit can be lied to, quenched, and grieved.
