LETTER FROM THE EDITORs Hello, My name is Claude Clayborne and I’m the other half of the Co-Editor-in-Chief system that oversees 6magazine. I have a serious problem with football that will lead to billions in earnings or an intervention Claude Clayborne Jr. aka “the D- Coordinator”

on the A&E Channel. I am biased for the Sooners,

Buffaloes, and Hurricanes yet fair, tall yet modest, classy yet down to earth. I am the typical football fan. I swear and curse at the tv by myself on Saturdays and Sundays, but the people inside the tv never listen to me. I root for underdogs and spread rumors behind the backs of head coaches everywhere with no real proof of any wrongdoing. On a serious note, I love football and it is a pleasure to bring my dream of 6Magazine to reality and make an impact amongst all the generic giants controlling the gridiron news landscape. scouting report Notre Dame is headed for a collapse

CRIMSON TIDE CLAYBORNE Notre Dame, despite having the best college quarterback in the country in Jimmy Clausen, who is rated #1 in the country with a pass efficiency rating of 179.25. He has completed 100 of 148 passes (67.6 percent) for 1,544 yards, with 12 touchdowns with only two interceptions for ND this season. What the statistics do not tell you is the poise and savvy that Clausen has displayed all season as the leader of the Fighting Irish. Seemingly every game for the Irish this year has been nail biter and even including their only loss to Michigan, Clausen has been Cool Hand Luke in every game. Furthermore, Clausen has been battling a turf toe injury that at some points this season has caused Notre Dame to go to highly touted backup Dayne Crist. Armando Allen has been impressive as well despite nagging ankle issues. So why is Notre Dame in big trouble going into the meat of their schedule this season? The answers are clear, Michael Floyd has a broken collarbone, and although Shaq Evans may be a future star, he is no Floyd at this point 3

in his career. Golden Tate picked up the slack with a remarkable performance versus Washington but against better competition that is coming his production will be limited. Notre Dame has become the Cardiac Irish this season and while this makes for good storylines and great television the Irish have yet to beat a ranked opponent. The schedule gets a lot more competitive down the stretch for Notre Dame. USC is on the slate Oct. 17, as well as a surprisingly good Boston College team. UConn and Pitt are definitely not pushovers and have a great chance to beat the Irish this year. I don’t think many people in the country at the beginning of the season expected Notre Dame’s schedule to be this tough, but several teams this year have been better than advertised. Such is the case for Toby Gerhart and Stanford, who the Irish end the season with. Gerhart, as of this week, leads the country in rushing, and starting QB Andrew Luck has been lights out for the Trees. Notre Dame, if it gets through its schedule unscathed deserves a BCS bowl bid, but that seems unlikely no matter how Ice Cold Jimmy Clausen plays down the stretch. It appears at the moment that Clausen but does not have enough defense or deep threats to get the job done this year. Looks like the Cardiac Irish may die in November from heart failure.

towels

The towel craze has taken the nation by storm once again. This style was very popular through the 1980’s and mid-90’s. However, the quarterback towel is not what we are talking about. The towel we are talking about is the towel that is long and thin that blows o-so-swaggishly in the wind with absolutely no intended purpose other than style. The towel is usually positioned on the side, but some players such as Graig Cooper employ the front towel with remarkable success. The Godfather of 6Magazine, Deion Sanders, once donned the double towel look on both of his hips. Charles Woodson in his early Raider days and Terrell Owens in his 49er days once rocked the ridiculously extra large towels that somehow someway managed to look fly as hell. The common mistake of many players that try to rock the towel is cutting it way too small. It’s a fine art to cut the right sized towel. While other accessories have at least some reasonable purpose such spats providing ankle support, various brands of Under Armour and DriFit apparel providing hot and cold weather comfort, and visors protect the eyes. The towel stands alone as a testament to GQ stylings on the football field. There are many variations, but by far the flyest is the rare team colored towel as they usually come in white, black but the team color towels just catch the eye more although they have not caught on 10

TCU’s 4-2-5 defense

The best defense in Texas is not located in Austin and it hasn’t been for a long time. The Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University are perennial contenders for the best defense in the country. Their base defensive package is the 4-2-5 which is not run by many teams in the country, however TCU has been making a killing with this scheme for years. Trust and believe that the Horned Frogs and Jerry Hughes will do a“doublepitstochesty” on any offense they face this year. The Statistics speak for themselves and are not really even believable. The Gary Patterson led Horned Frog defense is currently only giving up only 47 yards on the ground per game after already having faced a hot and cold Virginia and Clemson teams this season with both games being wins. They are currently ranked seventh in total defense, led the country yards allowed per game in 2008, and were second in 2006. Furthermore, to understand how serious the TCU 4-2-5 is, in 2006 they were second in the country in defense and only blitzed 7% of the time. What is the key to the Frogs’ juggernaut? Team speed, nothing more nothing less combined with a remarkably simple scheme. Gary Patterson feels like if TCU is going to be a top defensive team year after year,

“We have to average between 4.62 and 4.66 in our top 22 defensive players including defensive line”, says Coach Patterson.

12

in the trenches

in the booth

TCU’s 4-2-5 defense: Continued That is blinding speed for a defense’s two deep to average and any university in the country would be proud to accomplish such a gaudy number. The difference between TCU and other schools is not only schematic it is in the approach that the TCU staff takes in making sure that speed translates into results on the playing field. TCU is one of the few FBS programs that has all coaches heavily involved in the weight lifting program. The strength coaches still do their job, but Patterson really only turns them loose when he legally has to in the summer. This is a common practice at lower level college football, but TCU may be the only team in the country that employs this strategy at the FBS level. For TCU to get the speed they need on the field, they have focus on building high school players from cornerbacks to safeties, safeties to linebackers, linebackers to defensive ends, and defensive ends into defensive tackles. Jerry Hughes, a star defensive end, arrived at TCU as a high school running back who ran for 1,412 yards and 19 touchdowns and caught three TD passes. He was transformed into possibly the best defensive lineman in the country three years later. The staff in Fort Worth wants to be hands-on in making sure these types of transitions happen fast. TCU focuses on getting kids on the field their redshirt freshman year and they don’t want kids waiting in the wings until they are 4th year juniors and 5th year seniors. TCU had six safeties in 2008 that benched over 400 lbs, so you can see this approach to the strength program is definitely working. After the speed and strength quotas have been met, the scheme is really an easy one. TCU stresses the KISS System with their defense. One thing that is unique about the 4-2-5 is that the fronts in TCU’s system does not change during the season and there are no connections between the front seven calls and the secondary calls. The key here is that there is nothing new to teach the players for the entire season. The defensive fronts do not change in this defense, and they only learn the new tweaks for the upcoming team in that week’s practice. This simple concept allows players to fly around without having to think too much about where they are supposed to be because their

13

in the trenches

responsibilities never change. The 4-2-5 defense really doesn’t have to take formations into account because it divides the field in half through the center. Theoretically when you split the field in half like this there are only three different formations each half of the field can possibly see, a pro set, a twin set, or some type of trips formation. So unless the offense lines up with an empty backfield or in a wishbone formation, these are only three sets that the defense will have to deal with from a half field perspective. Given this simplicity it only takes TCU three days to put in its zone coverage packages in spring practice. How crazy bananas is that? Teams that face TCU must use slide protection, because it is not possible to stop this defense with man protection because of all the twists, stunts, and the double and strong safety blitzs that TCU employs. The other major secret of this defense is the stunt game with their defensive line is simply amazing and gives opponents fits. The stunt scheme is why you can lead the country in defense when you only blitz seven times out of a hundred plays. The crazy thing is it takes a total of six days to totally install this defense in two-a-day practices. Coach Patterson is one of the better coaches in the country, becaues he has ended long bowl droughts at every stop in his career. While at New Mexico State he ended a 36 year bowl drought, at Utah State it was 30 years, at Navy it was 16 years and at TCU it was 4 years. Patterson has made a living off of making a something from nothing programs. Outside of Utah last year, TCU is one of the first potential BCS busters that can crush you with defensively not need an explosive offense to win, just ask Clemson. The Frogs will come to a neighborhood near you and drop a “doublepitstochesty” on any quarterback in sight. The TCU 4-2-5 is a monster with legitimate time proven numbers and that is why the Horned Frogs have the best chance this year to break into the BCS party this year. Anytime you employ not only speed, but speed with an acute understanding of philosophy you’re going to raise hell and that’s exactly what Gary Patterson and Horned Frogs do week in and week out.

FANHOOD 15

text

Claude Clayborne

The Proper etiquette for upsets is not being used as of late in college football. It used to be when fans had “class” or maybe the proper word is heart. Fans used to get got rowdy after a win and rip goalposts down, somebody had to get pepper sprayed, a few streakers went to jail etc. In the modern era with retractable goal posts and equestrian units police force, it seems as though that pure passion I was used to from football fans has left the game. I can vividly remember in 2000 when Oklahoma beat Nebraska in Norman that the field was full of fans ready to leap out the stand and onto Owen Field five minutes before the game was over. After the final bell the Sooner Nation “BUMRUSHED” the police and made a beeline straight towards the goalposts which were tore down rightfully so by a riotous crowd of bloodthirsty college kids with pride and unexpected joy given their team had just risen above all odds to beat their fierce rival. I remember several students getting pepper sprayed and grown men being so drunk they were humping each other outside the stadium at 4pm in the afternoon. Where is the passion from today’s fan? I want to see cars turned upside down and randomly lit bonfires statewide that burn deep into the night. I

want this infectious disease to carry on into wild parties that only end when the workweek and classes begin on Monday morning. I want to see the local news teams covering the raucous activity of fans as much as the game itself, because it shows they care. I know we live in a time of respect and sportsmanship. I also understand that some programs are so good that their fans scoff at the idea of “wilding out” after a win. However if you’re one of these fans that likes to play “meet the team at midfield and act a fool” while Jump Around is played on the loudspeakers has to end. Either celebrate an upset properly or don’t even by tickets hombre. I look forward to this piece of literary humor to impact somebody’s life in the near future. So much to the point that we can have fans celebrating like a true diehard student section is supposed too. I will be watching and hopefully you “diehard” fans will not stand idly by.

homecoming Ain’t Nothing Like A Howard Homecoming

Homecomings have been apart of US History since 1909. It is a time for residents, alumni, old friends, and family to return home and have a great time. Sadly enough for one reason or another, not everyone gets a chance to make it to Homecoming. This is not the case when it comes to Howard University Homecoming, The World’s Largest Homecoming Festival. Everybody, and I do mean everybody makes it home for Howard Homecoming. Howard Homecoming has become a constant staple since 1924. The numbers in attendance are ridiculous being approximately 100,000. The nine-day event has something for everyone to enjoy. I can only imagine if Howard was a college football powerhouse like an Oklahoma, Florida or USC and they played one of their rivals. Then the whole event would need to be considered a national holiday if that were the case. In case you were wondering, I did say this nine-day homecoming event. Yes, nine. Returning home for a Howard Homecoming celebration is known as coming home to the Mecca. Please make sure you come to the Mecca correct, because your letters will be checked at the annual YardFest if you don’t and your clothing game as well at the infamous Fashion Show. Don’t think you are just going to come to D.C. and sin your life away without some repentance, the Gospel Concert is sure to make sure you call out the Lord’s name in praise. The other events on top of those earlier mentioned is just plain silly: 3 on 3 basketball tournament, International Showcase, Poetry Cipher, Celebrity b-ball game, Steve Harvey Morning Show, Comedy Showcase, Parade, Step Show, R&B concert and many more. The event always features a surprise celebrity performer which have included Ludacris, Notorious B.I.G. and many other greats and I’m sure this year’s guest will not disappoint. There is also a game to be played. This year’s matchup will bring North Carolina A&T into town, which should make for a very good ball game as well. You know good and well if I’ve talked up this nine-day celebration that the after party has to be (insert your adjective of choice here, because mine is inappropriate).

The United Football League is set to begin play October 8, 2009. Several big names are on the rosters for the four teams in New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Players like Simeon Rice, Koren Robinson, J.P. Losman and many more. I’m not really sure what to think about this UFL. I hope it does not fail. I don’t think it will compete with the NFL and if it does it will soon fade as did the USFL did years ago. It would be good for the league to form a partnership with the NFL and be the official minor league of the NFL.

The league will have a six week schedule with games being played on Thursdays and Fridays airing on Versus network and HD network. The inaugural game will be Thursday October 8 between the California Redwoods and the Las Vegas Locomotives. They’ve got good support as well with by William Hambrecht, a big wig Wall Street investor, Tim Armstrong, a former senior executive a Google, now chairman and CEO of AOL, and Paul Pelosi, collegiate roommate of former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, having stepped forward heading a group of investors who invested $30 million to purchase four franchises to play in the league’s 2009 initial season. From what I’ve read they want to pay at least ten people on each roster salaries of one million plus dollars. I hope the league does well in its first season. Support the UFL, it’s not directly competing with the NFL or College football, and it’s football. Why wouldn’t you want to watch high level athletes play the best game ever? 17

Overrated/Underrated

The Age Old Question: Is anyone more overrated than Ryan Leaf? Every season there are great debates from coast to coast on which player (or players) are over or underrated. I am pretty sure that Ryan Leaf is the leader in the clubhouse for the dubious distinction of “Most Overrated Player of All Time”. If he isn’t he is in a handful of contestants that can stake a claim to this title. The Colts took some guy named Peyton Manning instead of Leaf in 1998 and count their blessings every day. When it comes to underrated it’s not nearly as cut and dried. I think that Isaac Bruce is easily one of the most underrated players of this or any generation. I mean the guy is going to be a hall of famer and he was mentioned second to Tory Holt for years on the great Rams teams. The following is a list of players who get way too much credit and those who don’t get near enough love from fans and media alike.

OVERRATED:

UNDERRATED:

1. Reggie Bush; RB New Orleans Saints. Reggie came into the NFL with a reputation as a game changer and an electrifying player. Unfortunately his NFL career has not lived up to the hype that was created by his incredible success at USC. The difference is that you have to play against an NFL defense every week and not Washington St followed by Washington with some San Jose St mixed in. Reggie has the ability to be a very nice 3rd down back and a return specialist throughout his career and there is nothing wrong with that. I will bet my first born child that he will never rush for 1,000 yards in a season, he may not even rush for 750. What he can do is get you 500 yards rushing 400 yards receiving and some nice punt returns. That should be all that is expected of him.

1. Keith Bulluck; LB Tennessee Titans. Bulluck has been a mainstay for the Titans’ Defense since 2000. He can pretty much fall out of bed and get you 100 tackles for the season. Another HUGE quality about being underrated is that Bulluck has not missed a game since 2002 and for a LB that is really saying something. Bulluck is easily one of the top 10 LBs in the league and I would imagine that no one outside of Nashville even knows who he is. Bulluck has been fortunate to be on some very quality defenses but hasn’t been able to rack up the sack totals due to Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch being in front of him. Look for another boring year for Bulluck with something like 90+ tackles and 16 games played. Ho-Hum.

2. Carson Palmer; QB Cincinnati Bengals. Palmer had three very good seasons from 05-07 and he may be the victim of his own success. Palmer was the centerpiece of a Bengals offenses that had the ability to score from anywhere on the field. Chad Johnson (I refuse to call him Ochocinco), TJ Houshmandzadeh and Rudi Johnson were three very capable weapons that Palmer had at his disposal. TJ has left for the greener pastures of Seattle and it appears that he may have had more to do with Palmer and Johnson’s success than many could have realized. Palmer has also dealt with injuries in the last two seasons but seems desperate at times in the pocket and tends to force things more now as Cincy is desperate to recapture its offensive prowess. The fact that he is forcing the issue a bit is understandable because Palmer is the owner of one of if not the best arms in the entire NFL but until he can throw more than 25 TDs and fewer than 15 INTs he will be considered overrated in my book.

2. London Fletcher; LB Washington Redskins. Fletcher is another LB who could be up for the Rodney Dangerfield award. He hasn’t had less than 116 tackles since 2001 and also hasn’t missed a game since 1999. For someone who is involved in that many collisions that is very impressive. He also, somehow, hasn’t made his way on one Pro Bowl team. I am really not sure how he has gone so unnoticed. Perhaps this season he needs to make 130 tackles, give water to the offense, and serve hot dogs at halftime in order to get some recognition.

3. Dunta Robinson; CB Houston Texans. He had one great season for the Texans, his rookie campaign of 2004 where he had 87 tackles and 6 INTs. He has only totaled 7 INTs since that year and this season held out until the week before the Texans’ first game against the Jets. He was demanding more money because he wants to be paid as an elite cover corner. The only problem with this, Dunta, is that you have to BE an elite Corner to be paid like one. I guess no one felt they should inform him of this. Robinson is a slightly above average corner on a swiss cheese defense that seems to give up more points than the Houston Rockets. 19

3. Leon Washington; RB New York Jets. Washington is slowly becoming the next Darren Sproles. He is a small guy by NFL standards at 5-8 and 195 lbs, but he contributes all over the field. Rushing, receiving, and kick returns. Every team is going to more of a two back offense because let’s face it you can’t really be productive giving one guy 35 touches per game. I think that in the years to come every team will have a “Sproles” or a “Washington”. A guy who is considered a triple threat and has the ability to score on any play. For those Fantasy players out there, Washington is a player who can really add value to a team in the later rounds (that is all the Fantasy advice that I will offer as my team will probably be under .500 again this year). I think this will be Washington’s breakout year where he will amass 700 yards rushing and receiving and will also help the Jets with field position in the return game.

Worlds Collide: The similarities in attitude and psyche of a hip-hop artist and a footballplayer.

“I’m the one that you’ve been ravin’ about, like Ray Lewis”. You may recognize that lyric from the song “Heart of a Champion”, by hip-hop mogul Nelly. Lyrics like this are commonplace in the world of hip-hop, and it’s not coincidence. It has long been known that the lines that divide the music industry from the sports world are blurred. In today’s society of fame, glitz, and glamour, this has never been truer. Hip-hop is the single largest influence we have on our culture today. It crosses barriers of race, gender and ethnicity. Take a kid from the ‘burbs and a kid from the inner city, check their iPods, and chances are you’re looking at the same playlists. So, you ask, why are the attitudes and psyches of hip hop artists and football players merging in a way we’ve never seen? Well, for one, we’ve never seen hip-hop on this grand a scale. The birth of hip-hop can be traced back to as little as three decades ago. Hiphop has grown from a small genre into one of the only genres keeping the entire music industry afloat. That still doesn’t answer the question, however. Now, think of the NFL. Most of its players are in there twenties, close to the age of the hip-hop genre. Most of these players grew up with hip-hop (not to mention the countless high school and college football players). For a lot of these guys, they’re listening to artists that grew up in the same areas they did, came from similar backgrounds they came from, or went through similar struggles they had to go through. It could also be as simple as this: when you wanted to get hype for a game, what would you bump? If that doesn’t make it clear, look at it from another angle. NFL and college players rarely fill up stadiums as individuals the way hip-hop stars do, but they both enjoy similar levels of fame and stardom. It’s natural

18

in the trenches

football & hiphop worlds collide: Continued

that similar types of people with similar statuses in life enjoy indulging in the same things. This leads many to conclude that hip-hop stars want to be athletes, and athletes want to be hip-hop stars. You see hip-hop stars at games, and athletes at concerts and even showing up in videos. Have you ever seen a running back throw up the “Roc”? If not, go back and check some game film. You could say that player has a similar cough-swagger-cough to Hov. That’s because he wants to be looked at as having similar qualities to Jay. You ever seen a hip-hop artist wear a jersey? If not, watch a video. Hip-hop artists want to be seen as having player-like qualities too. One of my favorite examples of the merging of artist and athlete attitudes can be seen in the 2007 NFL season from the Indianapolis Colts. The defense used artist Fat Joe’s “Make it Rain” symbol all season, as a way to let each other know that they needed to earn their paychecks. A similar phenomenon, and probably more well known, happened when the New York Giants D used artist Jim Jones’ song “Ballin’” as their anthem in 2006. The adjective that links these two worlds together is confidence. A football player has to have the utmost confidence in himself, and if he doesn’t his opponent will feast on him. Hip-hop artist must also be confident as their audience can sense in their rhymes and delivery if they truly believe in themselves. Fans of both the sport and the music enjoy the cocky, arrogant, conceited, and brash assholes from both worlds and the more moxy the better. Just be ready to back it up if you are going to go running your mouth, because there will be someone there to make sure you can cash that check. Today, hip-hop culture and football culture are all but one in the same. It may have been recently that the blending of attitudes and psyches in these two fields has taken off, but as the genre of hip-hop continues to grow and cement itself in youth culture, and American culture, you can rest assured that it will continue. 21

Chad Jones, LSU FS - Jones owned the Mississippi State

Chris Johnson, Titans RB - 284 yards from scrimmage.

Bulldogs all by himself in Week 4. Jones had 7 tackles against Mississippi State, a 93-yard punt return touchdown, and he saved the game for the Tigers on 3rd and 4th down as the Bulldogs were inches away from the goal line. On 3rd down, Jones batted down a play action pass. On 4th down he stopped the Bulldogs’ quarterback on a quarterback sneak.

Three touchdowns, from a 57 yard run, 69 yard reception, and a 91 yard touchdown run against the Texans. Two words, SUPER WHEELS.

Ryan Matthews, Fresno State RB - The Fresno State stud RB rushed for 234 yards and 3tds in Week 3 against the Boise State Broncos. All three scampers came from 60 yards or more. One word, WHEELS. Jahvid Best, Cal RB - The future 2009 Heisman Trophy

Kurt Warner, Cardinals QB - I don’t know why people keep on doubting this man. Jesus is his homeboy man! Warner threw 24/26 and 234 yards and two touchdowns. That 24/26 was a 92.3% completion percentage, which was an NFL single game record. Antwan Odom, Bengals DE - Odom had six tackles, five of which were sacks against the Packers.

Players of the Month Drew Brees , Saints QB - I’m still wondering why he’s not mentioned in the same breath as Manning and Brady. Nevertheless, in the month of September, Brees threw for 841 yards, had a 69% of his passes completed, nine touchdown strikes to only two picks and led his Saints to a 3-0 record. Darrelle Revis, Jets CB - Thirteen tackles, three passes defensed, one pick in only three weeks. Ask Andre Johnson and Randy Moss about ‘em. Johnson caught four harmless balls for 35 yards in the opener. Revis shut him down. Three of those balls came in garbage time when the game was over. Moss was held to four receptions for 24 yards. Yes, that’s two Pro-Bowl wideouts held under 100 yards and 5 catches. Damn, D-Revs is out there ballin.

Swagger, style, and smoothness are not something you’d associate with a defensive tackle, but it’s hard not to with University of North Carolina starting defensive tackle, Marvin Austin. He’s the only defensive tackle in the country that wears a single digit number jersey, 9. It may not seem like much to most people, but the “big uglies” in the trenches aren’t supposed to look so fresh in their jersey. Austin does more than just look fresh, he dominates the game at a high level, dreadlocked hair, single digit jersey and all. Austin came in as a highly touted recruit out of Washington D.C. in 2006. He didn’t disappoint as a freshman, earning 2007 Freshman All-American Honorable mention and 1st team All-ACC Freshman as well. Marvin Austin stands 6’3” and weighs 305 lbs. When you see him move in the trenches you’d think he was 5’9” 170. This physical specimen moves like a cat. Everyone in the country is talking about Oklahoma’s, Gerald McCoy, and Nebraska’s, Ndamukong Suh, but they need to start talking more about Marvin Austin. Don’t let UNC’s record allow you to forget about the most complete defensive tackle in the country. He simply creates havoc in the offensive backfield all game long. Austin has great closing speed and good lateral agility. He’s very coordinated, with good body control and is very aggressive at the point of attack. His overall technique is a bit raw and his pad level maybe a little too high at times, but heck he’s only 20 years old and the NFL can fix those slight imperfections right away. He reminds me of a bigger Tommie Harris. We sat down with Marvin Austin during UNC’s bye week. The interview is below.

lfl Lingirie Football League – You’ll love this game! text

Ricky Writer

As cliché’ as it may sound, the title really does say it all. Lingerie Football League. When you hear girls playing football you think powder puff, not good football, bad athletes, and very hard on the eyes. When Lingerie football hits your ear drums you can only imagine, but your skeptical, don’t be. It’s the real deal. These women are gorgeous, playing in lingerie and playing some damn good football. A lot of the girls playing are former athletes and most are models as well. The Lingerie Football League, LFLUS.com, is made up of 10 teams in two conferences. The concept orginiated in 2004 as an alternative to the boring Super Bowl halftime shows. It’s no surprise that the event drew millions of viewers and spawned the idea to turn this into a full season league.

lfl Continued

2009 marked the inagurual season for the league. The teams are competing in a 20 week season with games on Fridays airing on MyNetworkTV and being streamed live on LFLUS.com. Don’t think these girls are just out there being cute. It’s full contact 7-on-7 football in lingireie. (if you know me my eyes are normally huge. They expand ten times that amount when I watch LFL.) Now, although they are scantily clad, they are protected with a helmet, shoulder pads, knee pads, a sports bra, and boy shorts.

The October power rankings have the Dallas Desire as the team to beat with their old school smash mouth football with a power running game and great defense. The next game is October 16th in San Diego between the Dallas Desire and San Diego Seduction at 9pm PST. If you miss the game, you can watch replays online at LFLUS.com. I would just like to thank the creator of this league for allowing me to be able to enjoy looking at a football player in their uniform.

darrelle Revis Continued

With the way that Darrelle Revis has played in his first four games of the NFL season, there’s no doubt in my mind that he has been the defensive player of the year. Throughout the first month of the season, he’s faced Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, and Marques Colston. All three were shut down rather easily. Johnson only caught 4 balls for 35 yards. Colston only grabbed 2 catches for 33 yards. The grandmaster of wide receivers the past 10 plus years, Randy Moss, only managed 4 catches for 24 yards and was out jumped by Revis on a jump ball which Revis intercepted. Performances like that are going to get you some attention, which they have. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King raves about Revis each week in his Monday Morning Quarterback column. It’s crazy that this guy was a 3 star recruit coming out of high school, the #36 corner coming out to be exact. Only 9 people in those 35 people ranked ahead of Revis coming out of high school are in the NFL. Revis is the only one who’s made it to the Pro Bowl and may be the only one to win Defensive Player of the Year. Not since 1994 has a cornerback won NFL Defensive Player of the Year when Deion Sanders seized the award. Let me shut up about Revis, because he has something he’d like to say in our interview below.

October 17th – 18th Oklahoma vs. Texas The Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma will be a good one this year. Although, the Sooners have struggled, their defense has played very well. Texas has gotten off to slow starts against Texas Tech and Colorado and came on strong to win late in both games. This is Texas’ first big opponent as Oklahoma has played two ranked teams in BYU at a neutral site and on the road at Miami. Texas is the better team and their line will dominate Oklahoma’s inexperienced line. If Bob Stoops plays balls to the walls then the Sooners have a chance, if he’s going to tighten up like he did in Miami, then prepare to hear the chant of Texas Fight.

USC vs. Notre Dame Michael Floyd’s loss will be seen the most in this game. Jimmy Clausen is playing out of his mind, but neither he nor his receivers have faced a defense as athletic as USC’s. Matt Barkley is slowly hitting his stride as well. The Irish will make it close, but not close enough as the USC defense wins the game.

Giants vs. Saints Eli returns home to New Orleans to face his old coordinator now New Orleans head coach, Sean Payton. Both teams arrive undefeated playing lights out football. This is really a contest to see who is the third best QB in the league behind Peyton and Tommy B. Defense wins games, and the Saints’ defense will win this one, but it will be close. Look for Darren Sharper to continue drinking from the fountain of youth as he continues to make big game changing plays.

Bears vs. Atlanta A rematch of a great game last year. The Bears didn’t have Jay Cutler last year though. This will be a great game between two of the younger stars at QB in the NFL. I think Jay Cutler will keep his team in the game, but Bear’s secondary will let them down as Matt Ryan to Roddy White will be consistently heard over the loud speaker.

October 24 – 25th BYU vs. TCU BYU’s offense vs. TCU’s defense. BYU’s BCS busting dreams were throttled at home against Florida State, but TCU’s will be alive and well with a victory. TCU has the better athletes on both sides of the ball. I call TCU’s defense in a win.

Vikings vs. Steelers Brett Favre vs. Troy Polamalu. Adrian Peterson vs. James Harrison. Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes vs. Antione Winfield. Jared Allen vs. Ben Roethlisberger. Big names and matchups all over the field. This will be a fun game to watch. We shall see how good the Steelers defense is. Can they stop A.D.? If they can, then can Brett put the game on his shoulders and win it?

October 31st Georgia vs. Florida The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail party will not be as fun for Georgia since they are in a rebuilding year. But rivalry games are always tricky so who knows. Maybe Georgia gets lucky. I doubt it though.
