Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks --Explain what is meant by spinning reserve. Explain about thermal constraints that are to be used in unit commitment problems. Discuss about priority list method in sloving the unit commitment problem. Explain with the help of flow chart the forword dynamic programming solution for solving unit commitment problem. Consider the data of a system having four generating units with the parameters listed in table. Find the most economical units to be committed for a load of 6 Mw with the load changes in steps of 1.5 Mw. Explain with the help of a schematic diagram of load frequency and excitation voltage regulators, the basic control strategies of a turbo generator. Discuss about the dynamic response of a single area system of an isolated area. Explain with the help of a block diagram, the economic dispatch control problem of a control area. Discuss with the help of block diagram, the proportional plus integral control of the load frequency problem and hence derive the expression of frequency deviation.
5.
Develop the block diagram representation of two area control system with integral control.
6.
Develop the state space model for optimal control of a two area system and hence derive the expression for performance index.
7.a)
