Concept - a mental shortcut for a culmination of things – eg. Dog •

Natural Concepts – casual or fuzzy concepts – eg. Cars



Formal Concepts- concepts that can be clearly defined by a set of rules or properties. Eg. Fruit, mammals, etc



Prototypes – an example that embodies common or typical features of the concept for comparison

Mental Models – sets of propositions that represent people’s understandings of how things look and work. How concepts relate to each other in the real world.

Images – Mental representations of visual information

Cognitive Maps – a mental model that represents familiar parts of the environment.

Positive instances: Parents acknowledge concepts

Systemic or Formal Approaches – definitions



Exemplars – think of other things in our experiences that an object matches
