3-1 Section Notes!

Earth Facts!  Two movements of the Earths Rotation and revolution affect both day and night and the season on Earth  At the equator, the Earth rotates at a speed of about 1600 kilometers per hour. The Earth axis is tilted at an angle of 23½°

Earth’s day and night Takes Earth about 24 hours to rotate once on its axis Amount of time Earth takes to complete one rotation is called a clay As earth rotates: half faces sun other face darkness-keeps rotating the half in sun and now faces darkness and vice verso-causes day and night Counter clockwise rotation: west to east

Years On Earth  Takes 365.26 days to make on full revolution.

Earths Seasons! •Summer and winter are not affected by Earth distance from the sun •More direct sunlight + longer days= summer •Summers start on June 20 or 21 •Longest day of the year is summer solstice •December 21 or 22 is winter solstice •Twice a year (Autumn and Spring) neither north or south poles •Spring begins March 20 or 21
