2x09 – Novelties (Claire Littleton, Luke Parsons & Michael Dawson Centric) Previously on LOST: 1) Walt being kidnapped – 1x01 2) Walt in the unknown room shouting for Michael – 1x06 3) Jack contacting “rescue” – 1x01 4) The helicopter landing on the beach – 1x05 5) The helicopter taking off with Claire, Luke, Michael and Sawyer on it – 1x06 6) The helicopter landing on the beach and Claire saying “you haven’t taken us anywhere!” – 1x06 7) Sawyer and Tom sat at the table when Sawyer arrives at the island – 1x06 8) Sawyer, Tom and the Others leading Claire, Michael and Luke into a clearing – 1x08 9) Locke and Boone finding Claire, Luke and Michael in the jungle – 1x10 10)Michael and Walt leaving the island in a boat – 1x19 We get a series of clips to get us to the clearing. 1) Michael, Claire and Luke getting on the helicopter with Sawyer and Howard. 2) The helicopter landing on beach and Claire looking around. 3) Tom arriving with the Others and bagging Claire, Luke and Michael. 4) Claire, Michael and Luke being led through the jungle. 5) The group arriving at the clearing. Exterior. Clearing – Jungle. (Dawn) The camera is focused on a heavily pregnant Claire, Luke and Michael who are stood beside Sawyer, Tom and Howard. Tom: We’re here...

The group looks forward as the camera pans round. We see a set of doors in the ground at a slant with a hexagon logo on the front. The camera cuts back to the group. Luke: What the... Tom: Take her in. Two of the random others move forward and take Claire’s arms. We recognise one of them as Ethan from 2x05 – “316”. Claire looks around confused as Ethan and the other Other lead her towards the doors. Claire: Get of me! Get of me! Ethan: Shut up. Please. The random Other lets go of Claire’s arm and walks over towards the doors. He pulls them open, the left first and then the right one. Ethan leads Claire in through the doors and the man follows them in, closing the doors behind him. The camera cuts back to Michael and Luke stood beside the Others. Sawyer: Should we take them, then? Tom: Yes. Put Dawson in the far tent. Parsons... Anywhere. Sawyer: Very well. The Others (including Sawyer and Howard) lead Luke and Michael off into the jungle leaving Tom in the clearing. He looks around for a moment before he walks over to the doors and opens them. He walks in as the camera fades to black. -LOST-

Commercial Break. Exterior. Jungle. (Night). We see Michael and Luke being lead through the jungle by Sawyer, Howard and the rest of the Others. Michael and Luke now have hoods over their heads. We hear a rustling sound and a woman walks out of the trees in front of them. Sawyer and Howard stop and the rest of them follow suit. The woman is dressed in blue jeans with a headscarf on, black, middle-aged. This woman is called Ms. Klugh. She walks over to group. Ms. Klugh: (To Howard and the Others) Take them to the camp. Put them in the tents. We will be with you shortly. Howard leads Michael, Luke and the Others further into the jungle until they disappear from view. The camera focuses on Sawyer and Ms. Klugh. Ms. Klugh: Did you speak with Tom? Sawyer: Yeah, he told me to bring them here. Dawson is to be put in... Ms. Klugh: (Cutting him off) Yes, I know. He said he will be supervising the... Situation with Littleton and the child. In a few days, he will come and check on the situation here with Parsons and Dawson. Sawyer: Right. So what do we do till then? Ms. Klugh: I will go and “brief” Dawson. Sawyer: And me?

Ms. Klugh: I will come for you if I find something for you to do. I will see you soon, Mr. Ford. Sawyer looks a little pissed as he turns and walks off into the jungle. Ms. Klugh watches him go before she walks in the direction Luke and Michael were taken. The camera cuts to: Interior. Corridor – Staff Station. (Night) As with the previous stations, I am going to have a plan of the hatch rather than explaining what it looks like.

The camera is focused on Claire as she is lead down a corridor by Ethan. They walk past an open door and Claire looks in. The camera follows her and we see a room full of lockers. There is a large partially open door in the wall at the other side of the room. Claire: What... Ethan: That doesn’t matter. Claire: (Looking over at Ethan) Do I... Know you? Ethan: How could you? Ethan gives Claire a strange look before he takes her arm and leads her into a room at the far end of the corridor. He opens the door and takes her inside. We see an operation room. The camera cuts to:

Exterior. Campsite – Beach. (Night) We see Luke and Michael being led through some trees by Howard and the remaining Others. They stop for a moment and both Luke and Michael stand and stare forward. The camera pans round to show a small camp side on a rocky clearing beside the ocean. There are about ten small tepee tents in the clearing, some of them with smoke coming out of the top. We can see about 20 people gathered around the tents in the middle of washing clothes and hanging fish up to dry. The people nearest to Michael, Luke and Howard begin to turn and look as Howard ushers them forward. In the crowd, we can see Jim Carnes watching. Howard takes Michael by the arm and virtually drags him to the furthest tent. He pulls the door up and takes Michael inside. The camera cuts back to Luke who is stood with the group of Others. He looks around and spots a set of metal doors in the Cliffside. There are two armed men stood beside them. One of them moves forward and drags Luke into another tent as the camera cuts to: Interior. Michael’s Tent – The Other’s Campsite. (Morning) The camera is focused on Michael tied up in an empty tent as the door swings open. The camera pans round and we see Ms. Klugh walking into the tent. She allows the door to close and the tent is shrouded in darkness again. She walks over to Michael and kneels down so that they are face to face. She takes a gag out of his mouth. Michael: Let me go! Ms. Klugh: I have a few... Michael: (Cutting her off; raising his voice) Where’s Walt?! Where’s my son? Let me see my son! Ms. Klugh: (Continuing as if there was no interruption; voice remaining soft)

... Questions to ask you regarding your son, Walt. Michael: Let me see him! Give me my son back!! Ms. Klugh: If you answer my questions and you do as you are told... You will have Walt back. The camera focuses on Michael’s face as the camera cuts to: Interior. Operation Room – Staff Station. (Morning) The camera is focused on Claire who is a hospital gown sat on the operation table. Ethan is stood in front of her with a syringe in his hand. We see him put down a now empty bottle (with the numbers printed on the label) onto a table. He walks over to Claire and smiles. Ethan: Just a small injection. A small prick. And then I have a surprise for you. Claire: (Smiling, dazed, slightly giddy) Sure... Claire pulls her gown up slightly to reveal part of her belly. Ethan injects the liquid into her stomach and Claire groans slightly. Claire seems to be pretty much out of it, not knowing herself or Ethan. Ethan: There. All done. He puts the needle down onto the table and takes Claire’s hand. Ethan: Come on... I have something for you.

Ethan helps Claire up from the table and she slowly shuffled over to the door. The camera cuts to the corridor as they stop outside of a door beside the operation room. Ethan opens it and the camera cuts to: Interior. Nursery – Staff Station. (Morning) We see Claire and Ethan walk into the room. The camera slowly pans round it and we see a small bed beside a cradle. There are various toys around the room. Claire slowly walks over to the cradle and looks down into it. The camera pans down and we see a teddy polar bear. Claire picks it up as we hear a voice speaking from outside of the room. Voice (O.S.): Ethan! The camera pans round to the half open door and we see Tom stood there. Ethan: I’ll be back in a moment. Ethan smiles at Claire and walks out of the room. The camera cuts to the side view of Claire playing with the bear. We can see Tom and Ethan talking behind the door. Tom: (Whispering) What did they say? Ethan: James went to Dawson about two days after the crash. Told him about Walt... And who he was. Tom: And? Ethan: He persuaded him to get onto the helicopter. Said that he would get the kid back.

Tom: (Glancing into the room at Claire who is watching them) How’s it going? Ethan: Fine. The drugs have helped... She doesn’t really know who she is anymore. Still thinks it’s before the crash. Tom: Does she recognise you? Ethan: She thought I was familiar on the day we brought her in. But I don’t think she remembers. She was hammered when we met. Tom: I’ll be heading out to the camp site in about twenty minutes. I’ll return with Dawson and Parsons when we have the required information. When we return, you need to prep her. Ethan nods and Tom walks off the screen. Ethan walks into the room and smiles at Claire. Claire: What was that about? Ethan: Nothing. It doesn’t matter. The camera focused on Ethan’s face as the camera fades to black. Commercial Break. Interior. Luke’s Tent – Others Camp Site. (Day) The camera is focused on Luke tied up in a darkened tent as the door opens. The camera pans round and we see Tom standing in the doorway, grinning down at Luke. Luke grunts, trying to talk behind the gag in his mouth. Tom closes the door and walks over to Luke, kneeling to his face and taking of the gag.

Luke: Let me go! Tom: (Calmly) If you cooperate... When the time comes... We will release you. Luke: Cooperate? Tom: I need you to answer a few simple questions. About your camp mates. Luke stares ahead at Tom, not replying. Tom: Who is the leader of your group? Again, Luke doesn’t reply. Tom: I promise... You can we will release you if you just answer our questions. Luke: (Rolling his eyes; looking away; sighing) Jack. Jack Shepherd. Tom: Very well. Who are the strongest characters in the group? Luke: Umm... Jack. Locke. Kate. I don’t really know them that much. I was only there for a few days. Tom: Can you name me the people from your group. Tom takes out a small notebook and a pencil.

Luke: Jack... Kate... John Locke... As Luke talks, Tom writes down the names in the notebook. Luke: Boone, Libby... Hurley... Jin, Sun... Nadia... Sayid. Charlie... Rose... Claire, Michael... Me. Then there was Walt... Tom: (Cutting him off) That will do. Thank you for your cooperation. Luke: What now? Tom: How long... Before you crashed here... Were you blind for? Luke: What... How did you know? Tom: Just answer the question. Luke shakes his head and looks away. Tom puts the notebook into his pocket and stands up. He looks down at Luke before walking out of the tent. The camera pans down to Luke’s face. Luke: (Shouting) You let me go!!! The camera cuts to: Interior. Michael’s Tent – The Others Camp Site. (Day) We see Ms. Klugh sat down in front of Michael who is still tied up in the tent. Ms. Klugh: Has Walt ever appeared in a place he shouldn’t be?

Michael: Wha – What do you mean? Ms. Klugh: Has your son ever appeared in a place that he shouldn’t have been? Michael: I don’t understand. Ms. Klugh sighs and stands up. Ms. Klugh: I will be back in about an hour or so. If you continue to waste my time... You will never see Walt again. Ms. Klugh leaves the tent and the camera cuts to: Exterior. The Others Camp Site. (Day) The camera is focused on Ms. Klugh as she walks out of the tent. The camera pans round slightly and we see Tom walking out of Luke’s tent. Tom walks over to her. Tom: How is he cooperating? Ms. Klugh: Not very well. He doesn’t seem to understand what I am asking him. Did you get the list? Tom: Yes. He was surprisingly forthcoming, actually. Ms. Klugh: And? Tom: “He” wants Jazeem. Ms. Klugh:

Oh. Why? Tom: I don’t know. Ben didn’t really fill me in on the details. It’s just what he wants. Would you like me to find out why we need Jazeem? Ms. Klugh: I would appreciate that, yes. Tom: Is he at the... Ms. Klugh: Yeah, he is. Go there first and find out the details. And then get back to the Staff and oversee the situation there. Fill me in on the details that you find out when I bring Dawson and Parson’s in a few days. Tom: Very well. Tom turns and walks out of the camp site as the camera cuts to: Interior. Nursery – Staff Station. (Night) The camera is focused on Claire who is sat on the bed beside the crib. She is singing quietly to herself as she knits something. Claire: (Singing) Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket. The door to the room opens and the camera cuts to show Ethan stood there. He smiles at Claire as the camera cuts back to him. Claire: (Singing) Save it for a rainy day.

Claire looks up and smiles at Ethan. She shows him the fabric in her hand and we see it is a little wool sock. Claire: (Child-like) Look! See what I made. Ethan walks over and sits down on the bed beside Claire. He takes the sock in his hand and smiles down at it. Ethan: It’s... It’s great. Claire: (Taking it back) Really? Ethan: Yeah, really. Ethan looks over at Claire who looks back at him. Claire leans in slightly but Ethan pulls away. Ethan stands up. Ethan: I have to go and... Umm... Check up on something. Ethan walks out of the room as the camera fades to black. Commercial Break. Interior. Michael’s Tent – The Others Camp Site. (Night) We once again see Ms. Klugh sat down in front of Michael in the tent. Ms. Klugh: So you know what you have to do? Michael:

Yes. You’re going to let Luke go. And I’m going to go with him. You’ll drug him so that he can’t remember anything about what happened. And I’ll pretend that I’ve been drugged also. Ms. Klugh: Yes. Michael: About a week and a half after we get back... I will go on a walk with Nadia. Bring her to the clearing. Ms. Klugh: Yes. Michael: And then you will give me Walt back. And a boat. And you’ll let us go. Ms. Klugh: Yes, well done. Michael: Now I want to see him. (Raising his voice) I want to see my son!! Ms. Klugh: Alright then. (Shouting) Bring him in! The door to the tent opens and we see Howard walking in. He pulls Walt into the tent who stands and stares at Michael for a moment before he pulls away from Howard and runs over to Michael. Walt hugs Michael as he begins to cry. Michael: Walt. Walt! Are you ok? Walt pulls away as Michael begins to cry also. Walt:

Yeah... I’m good. Are you? Michael: (Voice breaking) I’m good. How are they treating you? Walt: They locked me in this room. And then they took me into this different room where they tested me. Ms. Klugh: Walt... Ms. Klugh gives Walt a threatening look which makes him fall silent. Michael: I love you, son. I’m going to get you out of here soon. Walt: I love you too, dad. Michael: I promise. Both Walt and Michael begin to cry loudly as they hug again. The camera cuts to: Interior. Corridor – Staff Station. (Night) The camera is focused on Michael and Luke as they are lead down the corridor by Howard and Tom. They walk through a door and the camera cuts to: Interior. Operation Room – Staff Station. (Night) The camera is focused on the door as it opens and Michael and Luke are pushed in through the door. Tom follows them in as Howard waits outside. The camera pans round and we see Ethan stood there. Ethan:

Excellent. Sit them down over there. Tom pushes Michael and then Luke onto a bench beside the wall in the room. Ethan takes out a syringe and a bottle. He walks over to Luke. Ethan: Roll up your sleeve please. Luke: What? Ethan: Please. Luke: No! Tom: (Shouting) Howard! The door opens and Howard walks into the room. Ethan: Restrain him. Howard walks over to Luke and pushes him against the wall. Luke: Ahh! Get off me! Ethan rolls up Luke’s sleeve and injects him. Luke’s eyes roll into the back of his head and he slumps down onto the seat. The camera cuts to Michael. Tom: When he regains consciousness... We will find out exactly how good your acting skills are.

The camera cuts to the same room but at a different time. About half an hour has passed. The camera focused on Luke as he groans and wakes up. Luke: Waa... Tom: Take ‘em. Howard pulls Luke to his feet and Michael stands up also, looking scared. The camera cuts to: Interior. Nursery – Staff Station. (Night) We see Howard bringing Luke and Michael into the nursery room. Claire is sat on the bed in the middle of knitting a second sock. She looks up and smiles at Michael and Luke. Claire: Hello. I’m Claire. Luke: Hi... The camera cuts to: Interior. Operation Room – Staff Station. (Night) We see Tom and Ethan stood in the operation room. Ethan: When? Tom: ... In about half an hour. Get the room ready. The rest of the surgeons will be here in about Ethan: Alright then. So what should I do now? Tom:

Prepare your self. To extract the baby... The music’s peak increases as the camera cuts to Claire’s face as she is in the middle of knitting. The camera pans down to her belly before it smashes to black.

If so, how did he become blind? 6) Why did the Others want Nadia? 7) What test did the Others do on Walt? 8) Why did the Others want Claire’s baby? 9) How did Claire, Luke and Michael escape? Questions Answered: 1) Michael knew about Sawyer before the helicopter arrived. Sawyer told Michael that he would get Walt back – that is why Michael was easily persuaded to get onto the helicopter. 2) After they were taken, Claire was drugged so that she forgot her memory. Michael was questioned about Walt before making a deal with the Others and reuniting with Walt. Luke was questioned about the survivors and his life before the island. The Others were planning on taking Claire’s baby.
