Lent 2009 Friday Night Soup Supper Everyone is invited to the UCC Lenten Soup Suppers which will be held from 6:30-7:30pm Fridays during Lent starting Feb. 27th. Come join us for a simple meal, a social justice message and wonderful fellowship. Please bring a bowl and a spoon, and some bread to share. We are in need of 3 or 4 cooks each week to make a meatless soup, each preparing about 20-30 servings. If you are interested in preparing a soup for one of the Fridays, please contact me at [email protected] Mark Your Calendars—Communal Penance Service A communal penance service with individual confessions will be held on April 3rd at 7 pm at St. Austin’s Parish, one block west of the UCC. Triduum Sign-Ups Many people are needed to help make our Triduum services Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil - prayerful and meaningful. Please consider helping out as Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, or in other areas needing help. Sign-up sheets are next to the large cross in the atrium. Thank you! Fourth Sunday of Lent

The Scrutinies This weekend, the Church celebrates the second of three scrutinies with the Elect - those who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. We pray for our Elect: Jonny Ahn, Jessica Kaizer, Julia Kuo, Megan McSwain, Lillian O'Connor, Ducela Phan, Scott Vanderpool and Annahita Varahrami. These prayers are to assist them in their preparation for the Easter Sacraments and make firm their commitment as they enter the Church. Please keep them, as well as our Candidates for Full Communion: Natalie Carnine, Kris Carter, Victor Chatman, Whitney Douglas, Erin Eastwood, Danielle Handsaker, Bryan Hanus, Bobby Jenkins, John Kim, Rachel Vallejo, and Dung To in your prayers. By means of the three scrutinies, first of all, the elect are instructed gradually about the mystery of sin, from which the whole world and every person longs to be delivered and thus saved from its present and future consequences. Second, their spirit is filled with Christ the Redeemer, who is the living water . . . the light of the world, . . . the resurrection and the life . . . From the first to the final scrutiny the elect should progress in their perception of sin and their desire for salvation. - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, no. 143. Reminder! 8 pm Mass attendees are no longer able to park in the lot at the corner of 20th and Whitis. The only lot for the University Catholic Center is the lot to our west between our building and Dobie Mall. Fr. Ed Nowak asks for your prayers as he travels this week to lead parish missions. May the parishes he visits grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ and may Fr. Ed return safely to Austin. He’ll return on Friday, March 27th. Thank you!

Expected

The chart above now includes information on what income the UCC has budgeted from the collection. The budgeted expectation is based on past years results, which have varied in the past based on events such as Spring Break. Due to Spring Break, this bulletin was compiled before last Sunday’s collection was taken up. As much as our business office wishes I could predict the weekly collection, we thought it best to wait until the numbers are in. God bless! Race Next Weekend The Capitol 10K is next weekend, which will close Enfield/15th, Congress, Guadalupe south of 15th. Please allow extra time to arrive to Mass in the morning.
