WELCOME FROM THE DEAN Welcome to the Faculty of Business and Information Technology (FBIT) at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) where we offer stimulating, innovative, market-driven programs that will prepare you for an exciting and successful career in a broad range of fields in business, information technology or both. Our Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) program is designed to enhance your understanding of key business functions and systems technologies. As a student you can select a major in Accounting, E-commerce, Finance or Marketing or choose the Human Resources Management concentration. If you are interested in accounting, we offer courses that will enable you to meet the chartered accountant (CA), certified management accountant (CMA) or certified general accountant (CGA) designations. Within our Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) program, you can choose Game Development and Entrepreneurship or Networking and Information Technology (IT) Security specializations as a foundation for your future career. As a designated Cisco Networking Academy, UOIT is proud to offer you the opportunity to develop the skills you need to complete your Cisco certification. Following successful completion of all third-year requirements, you may be able to participate in a contracted learning partnership with leading businesses through our internship program. This program is designed to provide you with the opportunity to apply your skills to the challenges of business life and gain valuable practical experience while also helping you develop networking and lifelong career success. We also offer Canada’s only Master of IT Security degree program and in September 2009, UOIT also launched a Master of Business Administration degree program. BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (HONOURS) The Commerce program at UOIT has been developed to enhance your understanding of key business functions and current systems technologies, preparing you to succeed in a specialized field such as accounting, e-commerce, finance, marketing or human resources management. During the first two years of the Bachelor of Commerce program you will begin with a common program of study and learn from simulations, teamwork and case study analyses. COMMERCE BRIDGE PROGRAM The Commerce Bridge program provides you with an opportunity to apply the diploma or degree you have previously earned toward a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree at UOIT. As a student enrolled in the Commerce Bridge program you can complete the five prescribed bridge courses in as little as one semester of study. Upon successful completion of these courses with a minimum cumulative B average or 3.0 grade point average (GPA), you can apply directly to the third year of the UOIT Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree program.

Computer networking has become an integral part of today’s business environment. The specialization in Networking and IT Security offers comprehensive knowledge and skills in planning, designing, installing, operating, managing and securing information technology infrastructure. The core curriculum includes mandatory courses in business and management in addition to technical courses, providing students with the necessary business background and technological skills to make significant contributions in today’s workplace. The coursework will prepare you to manage the continuing changes and challenges of the IT profession and for two levels of the Cisco certification program, namely, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE®) is offered as a technical elective. As a student in the Network and IT Security program, you may also take business minor courses to obtain a minor in E-commerce or Marketing.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Internship opportunities are available to you after completing all courses in your program up to and including third year. Obtaining internship placements is competitive and you must have a minimum B+ average or cumulative 3.3 GPA to be eligible. Internship placements equate to 560 hours of progressive experience on a full- or part-time basis. Successful work placement completion and final report submission result in both a grade and six credits toward your program’s degree requirements. This program offers you the opportunity to engage in a contracted learning partnership with businesses in Durham Region and around the globe. You are given the opportunity to apply classroom concepts to the challenges of organizational life and gain valuable, relevant work experience to promote networking and lifelong career success.

UOIT 2010-2011 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS UOIT expects students applying for admission to undergraduate bachelor programs to present at minimum: :: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum of six 4U or 4M credits or equivalent or mature applicant status*; and :: Credits, courses and minimum grades to satisfy the academic prerequisites of specific programs. The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year-to-year. Student selection is determined through consideration of a wide range of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Due to space limitations, preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications. PROGRAM

You can apply to up to three programs at UOIT for a base application fee of $115 for Ontario high school students.
